I really dislike Thin Diesel. He acts like he started the action game, when in reality all he does is a bunch of 'yo b!' movies these days. Pitch Black was good, but in a direct to video kind of way, like Cube. Although it was in the theater, it just didn't have that kind of quality.
Boiler Room was also good, but Thin was NOT the star of it. He was a supporting actor. I think if he did more serious roles, and was not the lead, he would be a good actor. I do not think he can carry a movie though. Fast and the Furious was the first time little 16 year old kiddies had seen a lil bit of muscle in a movie, and their piece of shit wannabe race car hondas. So, of course it was a hit, and now Thin is a 'star'.
He had a good build in Pitch Black, and was decently sized in Knockaround Guys BUT these days Vin IS Thin. In Fast and the Furious he was about 210-215 tops. In XXX maybe 190-200. That is not quality if you ask me, not for an 'action star'. When you come from a time when Arnold, Dolph, Stallone and even Van Damme were out there, a 200lb Vin Diesel is not that impressive. Even at his current small size, he isn't even all that cut. His abs are barely there.
I don't think he is 6'2 like he claims either. He is always cast with shorter, little guys, which makes him look huge. But in XXX when he is standing next to the two Russian guys in the club, he looks about 5'10 tops. Unless those guys were both 6'5-6'6, then he is not 6'2. They made him look like a shrimp boat. This was the first time, you ever see him cast next to anyone of any sort of size (height or body wise).
I think The Rock is a MUCH better choice for the 'next' action star. He at least has some charisma, and the right 'look'. He actually reminds me of a young Arnold. He can be extremely cocky, and over confident, yet you like him for it. Vin on the other hand comes off like he is just trying too hard.
