Why do YOU do it???

What is your single biggest motivation to do it. To diet religiously, to go to bed hungry some nights To get up at the crack, and get on a treadmill half asleep to bang out a session. To voluntarily lift heavy weight repeatedly, multiple times a week and know you will be barely able to climb the stairs to your apartment for the next few days after this self induced bodily damage?

I wanted to post this to see the varying responses. For me, what drives me above all honestly, is vanity. I know, shallow, and superficial perhaps, but I can admit that to myself and accept it. I want to have flowing lines, excellent proportions, granite sculpted muscles, and an overall beautiful body that turns heads everywhere. Health is a close second though; anything I can do to extend my time on this earth is well worth my while. I like to feel big. Powerful. Almost like a titan from ancient Greek mythology(almost ;) ). What singular reason drives you more than the others? (if getting laid more is your honest answer, show some backbone, and post that mofo).
 
Well, I am vain so that's part of it. Mainly, though, because I like being dedicated to something. Lifting and being healthy and keeping up with a good diet is always a great habit. People admire me for it, even though I have a long way to go to reach my goals. Everyone envys ambition. I feel proud, too. I feel confident, being strong and looking good. Though, I don't let other people's opinions bother me, my own does and I like to push myself to the limits, to see how far I can go, and whether or not I can reach my goals. I know I can, I just like to see it actually happen.

So to sum it up: Confidence, strength, aesthetics, determination, ambition, pride, envy, a way to vent my emotions, a way to pass the time, a challenge, and all in all some good fun.
 
Although the response was excellent, what I am interested in, and the purpose of this thred is, is to find the one single aspect that motivates you beyond all the rest(everything he stated). The one reason that is more important than the rest; the reason that transcends the others. One. .......Mine is Vanity
 
Ah...well, lifting to get bigger and stronger - power. Power and explosiveness. Thus leading one to be a better fighter (or assist in such).

Dieting and cutting bodyfat - vanity.
 
My reasons have changed over the years. Originally, I got picked on as a kid, so that's why I started. Now I just want to be a monster. I love having a large musculture, being bigger and stronger than I've ever been, not to mention bigger and stronger than other people. It makes me feel good. I guess you can call that vanity. I just want to be f*king huge. :evil:
 
That's funny you mentioned this, I was thinking about this same thing today.. I came up with the phrase "vanity under the guise of health conciousness." I say I do it for my body, my health, etc.. but when you get down to it, it's just to look better than the next guy. The reason I was thinking about this is because I smoke, yet I look down on people who scarf pizza and burgers and think how unhealthy that is.. then I realized if I really did care THAT much about my health, I'd quit smoking. So it definitely all comes down to vanity.

So true Bro Im the same allthough Ive now been stopped smoking 2 months, Still find it hard with a drink in my hand though
