why am i in college?

I was fairly miserable my first year of college, but after the start of the second year I had a blast. Did lot's of partying (too much), took some awesome classes, and really learned a lot about myself.

Cheers,
Scotsman

im bio engineering right now,

i really wanna be a dentist, badly, preferably ortho, but i dont know if i will have the grades or work ethic (let alone raw scientific smarts) to get there.

my next dream would be a personal trainer, but having spoken with some PTs, i was alerted that it has more to do with being a social person and being easy to talk to (since most people apparently get personal trainers so they have someone to talk with almost like a hired friend, to make working out less boring, since if they enjoyed working out they wouldnt need a PT to encourage them etc) and im probably the least social person ever, i have a hard time talking and relating to new people

I'm confused .. is bioengineering one of the courses required before dentistry or orthodontics?

If you want to be a DDS, be a DDS! You need the college to be a dentist, it is what it is. I wanted to be a doctor or a chiropractor but I have the math form of dyslexia, I could NEVER do it. But SZ, don't take the easy road and not fulfill your dreams.

BTW, if you want to work on teeth what about being a hygienist? I've stayed with mediocre dentists because their hygienists were excellent!

i wanan go down that path. whatever it may be. and bioengineering is my college major, as long as you take the required predental scores and the DATs it doesnt reallly matter what your major is before dental school

Well, speaking from the grand old age of 42, as a person who was, through circumstances, "thwarted" from following their dreams when I was out of high school:

Follow your dreams, I cannot emphasize that enough. If you have something that you want to do, and you are able to pursue that, then do what it takes to achieve that.

Nothing sucks more than looking back on your life and going "I wish I had done ______" (fill in the blank)

Seriously.

Stick to sciences and geeky stuff that dont require a lot of social skills.

You're too focused on training, why wouldn't you want to drink?

You can be big and lean and still drink 2x a week.

Yes, you can drink in moderation, and still build a strong physique.
I drink light beer once or twice a week up untill the last few weeks before a push/pull meet. I'm not ripped, but I'm no where near a slob either.
At your age you should find balance in your life. There's time to be serious, and time to let loose and enjoy being young. My 2cc.

Then go to trade school now. You are young and have the freedom a lot of people dont have like a change in career paths or schooling paths. Im 32 and am getting a masters in accounting, if my old ass can do it after a decade of screwing off, then anyone can.

you really think you can't drink at all and achieve your goals in the gym?

aren't you a freshman?
No shit, I was downing fifths of whiskey every weekend and never got above 5% fat when I was 18-21.

you're wasting years of your life by not going out and partying in college.
next thing you know you'll wake up, have a real job, have to wake up early, be in the grind...and be an adult. gay
i'll take the college bubble world any day of the week. pretend to go to class, study cram to pass your tests, cheat off your friends and get fucked up and bang whores (most of whom happen to live down the hall or two from you).

all my frat brothers were juiced to the gil guidos and drank a couple of times a week at least. they had fun, got a ton of primo tang, and still stayed jacked. in fact, they did alot of blow and their share of E too....much worse than having just a few beers on a friday/saturday night

you're mind fucking yourself. i did the same thing when i was trying to get in really good shape (i think i told you this already), but that was after my college party phase. i avoided places where i would have to drink. i'd just smoke alot of pot, hang out with my friends and basically became an introvert

don't make me go to MD and slap the shit out of you

listen borly

i hated drinking in college. i hated parties. i hated everything about little yuppies running around doing gheigh ass campus activities meeting in the student center to study then looking forward to happy hour.

i only hit up the parties for wimins and to socialize, when i felt like it on rare occasion.

i still hate drinking. i had 1 beer in the last month and plan on keeping it that way throughout summer. i only like going to bars to show everyone how much of a noodlekeg they are compared to me...kidding...i like the social outlet every now and then...but only when i want to go and not when my friends drag me...i have to mentally prepare for that shit.

stick to what makes you happy. for me it's (in no particular order) work, making money, spending money, family, cars, outdoors, chillaxin, and everything related to what i just listed. the right people will admire you and want to come into your world, not the other way around.

get your degree, you'd be stupid not to...it opens doors...trust me on that. i used to think it was totally worthless but it's not. you're likely to make twice as much with that paper than without it.

if you force yourself to drink and don't enjoy it, your other goals will be harder to reach.

do what comes natural.

you'll know when to push yourself.

and lol @ the real world comments...it's not hard to get to work.

you know why?

because i love my job, because i got it with a degree, because i still meet and socialize and have fun outside of work, because i don't get caught up in it.

balance? sure. balance it YOUR way.

i think he doesn't want to drink because of his perception of the effect it'll have on his physique...not because he doesn't enjoy it.

if you were refering to my real world comment....(which you probably were),
life is alot different when you have really no real responsibility in school and can basically do whatever the fuck you want. big fuckin difference
has nothing to do with liking your job or not.

you miss class, big deal...you make it up, get the assignment/notes from a friend. you miss an assignment? turn it late for a few points off...

you miss work, you're fired.. or some really important shit/client/etc gets fucked up. you forget to put the decimal or put the wrong digits on an important financial document or something similar? congratulations, you've just fucked up a bunch of people's lives.

once you enter the real world, responsibility is created on a whole nother level. you have to be on your toes at all times.....you take it for granted when you're in college. that's my point

dude i had responsibility in high school, nevermind college

that's the problem, most people who go to college are spoiled yuppie fucks going for a communications degree

of course work is different, you get paid to show up

people don't give a shit in college, you pay to be there...and when it's out of your own pocket trust me, you'll care.

if you pay attention in life, nevermind college, maybe you won't be fucktard enough to miss a decimal point

and i hate drinking because what it does to my body isn't worth getting sloshed for 1 night, then feeling it the next day. some can get away with it, some can't.

i just learned things from being at a disadvantage for most of my life, I wouldn't go back to college, not even for a second.

i'm makin cheddar, getting swole, having fun, making moves, what the fuck else do i need?

currently im a desktop support person for an IT contracting firm. I think I could continue in this path without schooling since i have experience.

so i should juice then?

i don't recommend drinking frequently while juicing....maybe once a week moderately won't hurt too bad. but if you build enough muscle size/get yourself to a decent bodyfat percentage...you can drink in moderation and maintain most of your size/strength and not get too fat while off.

remember mang, you only live once....

i think juice would actually do you good lol. i'll agree with the string bean theory here
