There has been a long going arguement at work about low carb diets. I am in the medical field - so everyone keeps finding " facts and figures " to back up opinions about the low carb weight lose issue. Facts and figures are great, but every time someone finds a good study to support their opinion, someone else finds another study that conflicts with it. So I decided to go to the people who know about diets. I guess the main arguement is over how much weight, and how fast is it possible to lose weight on a low carb diet? Some are also debating about how much is water vs. fat lose. We even have some of the docs in on this. A couple say low carb is a good idea. Some say it is good for a temporary quick cutting period, but not for more than a month or so. I have not found a dietician to ask. That would be fun. So far, just ER nurses, docs and medics. Since several of u have probably witnessed real results 1st hand - I am curious about what some of u have to say. Anyone?

Any diet that restricts carbohydrate intake is ketogenic. Cyclic Ketogenic Diets work. Do a search for CKD in this forum. Lyle MacDonald of misc.fitness.weights fame has an excellent book on ketogenic diets

The Ketogenic Diet: A Complete Guide for the Dieter and Practitioner

For an article on some of the science behind ketogenic dieting, look here.
I bought the book -- it's great. Thanx. If I keep going with books on the ambulance, soon, I will need to start tossing out supplies secondary to lack of room :FRlol: Anyone else want to add 2cents about personal losses? Well, fat losses 2ndary ketosis - I mean. Anyone?

Saying someone is on a 'low-carb' diet can be misleading as it does not state what their overall nutritional intake is on a daily basis, nor the level or type of activity they are involved with, if any.

If an individual reduces their nutritional intake so that they are only meeting their basic requirements and they then introduce physical acivity into the equation then the end result will be a loss in bodyweight. In general, a reduction by 500 calories per day (3500 total calories over the span of one week) will result in a loss of one pound in bodyweight per week. Add physical activity, and the loss may be more. Further reduce your nutritional intake and the loss may be significantly more. Although I wouldn't advise anyone to go beyond a two pound loss per week guideline, you would have to decide on what is healthy for your situation.

If you are placing your body in a cutting cycle then you just have to remember that cutting is not about starving your body. It is all about making your body find alternate sources of energy ... fat instead of carbs.

Carb cycling definitally the way to go. Dont really need any books, just have high and low days, Cutler, myself, aswell as most of the top pro's always use this type of dieting precontest.
