Im the only one that hates that BULLSHIT stoppage ?
I mean , dont get me wrong , I WANT to be able tohate ALLOVER Gracie , I want to be able to get in DEEP Sumo Stance , Gatehr up my Loincloth and release a Steaming Pile of Poi-Flavored dung ALL OVER his ass -
But I cant . He wasnt done . Its what he DOES , he gets slapped around for 14 minutes and subs the guy in the 15th then gets dragged to the Hospital by his brothers ! Is this NEWS ? And he WAS defending himself - from the CHOKE . He thought that more Important than the ten lil punches he had hitting his gloves , so BFD ! I wanted to see him UNCONSCIOUS , or Submitted . Neither thing happened , and he was hit less than you would get hit in the first round of a Boxing match by someone who couldnt MAKE it through the frst Round of a Boxing match with a Pro .
I was thinking the same thing. Royce would've weathered the storm and waited it out, then attempt to counter the first chance he got. In this case, it would've been after Hughes eventually stopped punching and tried something else. Royce would've been a bumpy, bloody mess by then, though I'm sure.
Thing is, though, is that the UFC has become more safety-conscious and Royce and the Gracie camp must've considered this coming in. They knew damn well if Royce got into a situation like that, he would have to respond immediately, otherwise take the chance getting a fight stoppage. And that's exactly what happened.
Interesting thing is, back in the earlier days of UFC, the better fighters wouldn't have expended energy striking like that simply because it won't lead to a KO, and will contribute to them tiring themselves out quicker. And there were no judges, so there wasn't any reason to try to score points by doing that.
Bottom line is, Gracie's fight game isn't suited for today's UFC.
