Who thinks the US Constitution is garbage?

Have you ever read some of it?

Can anyone explain what my right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness really means? In the early 70's my uncle really didn't give a damn about the civil war in Vietnam. However, our government decided he should give a damn about it and forced him to go to some jungle where he was killed. It seems to me that the government violated his rights to life and liberty (you can also argue pursuit of happiness since it's fairly obvious that you can't be happy while people are trying to shoot you).

We are supposedly protected against "cruel and unusual" punishment. What the fuck does that mean? Isn't punishment cruel by nature? What in the hell is unusual punishment? The damn constitution is written so vaguely that it's meaningless.

Free speech is supposed to be protected. However in 1990 Luther Campbell was arrested and spent a night in jail for performing a rap concert. (He was acquitted at trial, however, if 12 dumbasses on the jury decided differently he could have been sentenced to a year in prison for violating a vaguely written obscenity law. I guess free speech only applies to things that no one finds offensive. (hmmm.. where do we find speech that doesn't offend someone)

many people on this board such as MP5 and WeaponX tend to apparently think the Constitution is garbage since they misinterpret it on a regular basis.

It allows you the right to voice your right to disagree. You don't like it change it. (Or leave why do these two options seem so impractical?)

"where have all the visionarys gone?"

It is garbage. Because of it we cant imprision arabs, thus ending all these cases of anthrax.

Why dont you guys (those who support it) go ask the familes of the anthrax victoms about our great constitution.

Ryan, it's garbage because it needs to be interpreted. Our rights depend on how the supreme court feels plus it was written by slave owners that talked about guaranteeing freedom.

Since you're in law school can you explain to me specifically what my right to life, libert, and the pursuit of happiness means?

plifter, that is an interesting post.

It's not garbage, but it needs to be interpreted in accordance with modern times as well. The social situation prevailing when it was written does not necessarily apply today.

All of the statements above do not have anything to do with the constitution. Those actions were by a unconstitutional government. You want to constitution to be interpreted, well the above is what you get.

The constitution are literal words that only need to be read not interpreted by some idiot on the supreme court.
Plifter, you claim to be a libertarian, but I seriously doubt it.

Nikolai is right.

You cannot expect a constitution to remain rigid for 200 years. The constitution is fluid and is interpreted by the Supreme Court regularly.

The Supreme Court has protected us more than any other branch of government. If we left all matters to the legislature we would be a dated society, at best.

wasn't that "70s" cartoon on the simpsons about the constitution... the one that talks about ted kennedy and stuff.. lol
