Who Hits The Gym Early Am?

Liberator

New member
I dont mean 10am, I mean 6am

What do you do when you wakeup??? Do you drink a shake then go down the gym, what? I'm talking normal people here, not people on shifts.

My gym is starting to suck donkey balls during peak hours now, so I was thinking of either going very late (9pm) or very early like 6-7am.

So who here does it and how does it compare?

Do you lack energy or find its actually ok

i work out at 6am every morning. i haven't had any trouble with feeling tired. you just have to get yourself pumped up when you get in there. and make sure you warm up enough too. good luck.
:fro:

Technically isnt this the best time to train for optimum gains anyway?

You will be providing the body with the nutrients it needs throughout the day FOLLOWING the workout as opposed to eating maybe two meals then going to bed FOLLOWING the workout.

Although you could say that the latter provides for improved recovery

any comments on this

I do not eat very much at all before I lift...but I lift 1 hour after awaking. Maybe a small glass of oj and a cup of yogurt.

You will adapt to lifting in the am...it may take a couple of weeks..but you will adapt.

I could never train in the real early AM my body just wont function. I used to do it for school all the time and I was just like totally beat all day long.

:D:D

Gezz, I wouldn't be able to get up at 6:00am let alone go train. I would love to do it but I'd barf.

I'm with LIberator- after finishing up around 730am or so.. i love pounding on lotsa protein meals all day long......plus getting up early gives me more time to get in quality meals-

I love training early... kinda have an 'unspoken bond' w/ the am group...we just nod at each other & off to the rack- everyone seems more serious about their training...
as opposed to the pm 'yaksercise' pm group- even if you're not a part of it, the chatting & hangin' out is a distraction... seems to lower the intensity

I try to get up for early morning workouts, but
I'm just not a morning person.
Either that or maybe I'm lazy.:D

I sleep walk for the first few hours after I role out of bed. I think the best time is in the afternoon.

Last time I was cutting, I started training in the morning for the sake of doing my exercise before I'd eaten anything. It was quite good once I'd gotten used to it.

I can't remember feeling wrecked for the rest of the day like someone above described. Rather, I feel much better all day.... and then it's done and out of the way and I'm not having to train around other commitments.

I do it around 6a.m. since I work erratic hours. I get to work at the same time each day but the amount of work determines when I leave. Just as shaft says: warm up and get yourself psyched!:supercool

Tomorrow is back day and I is going to get up at 6am to get down there for about 6.30

No-one around me does any kind of fitness, nevermind getting up at 6am to go lift weights, so they think I am totally nuts

But its like this, I am very serious about this and you either give it 100% commitment or you dont bother and I think doing it early AM in the long run is better.

I will know after tomorrow morning

Cheers guys

you will get used to it! your body does adapt to working out this early.
Take some eca to wake you up. I get all this shi prepared the night before, and I love gettingup when its still dark out and eveyone is still slepping.
I get up at 5 and wait like 45 min - 1 hour to leave, so Im awake.
good luck to ya.

i do my cardio in the morning.... weights in the evening... ideally i'd like to lift at around 2pm, but i don't think my work would take kindly to me doing deads and squats and all that in my office :D

cardio at around 6:30 am, weights at around 7-7:30 pm

I am at the gym every morning at 5:30 to lift. I do cardio at night. It is backwards, I know, but at 5:30 there isn't a soul in the place. At night the place is packed full of people who aren't really lifting, but just taking up space. The cardio section is rarely busy though.

i have to start working out at 6 am (which im not too happy about) but anyway, what do you guys eat before you lift? i was thinking of a protein shake with 50g of protein and maybe 20g of carbs, what do you early birds think? thanks for the help
by the way, im planning on getting up at 5:30

Well I did it, and it was great

It will definately take some getting used to, but having the whole weight area to yourself is good stuff as far as I am concerned

I was able to set everything up how I wanted it and not have to wait for anything plus there was no distractions (apart from a very nice looking girl doing cardio :p ). I just need more sleep pm in future.

Definately going to make it a regular thing

I just slammed down 2 scoops of NLARGE about 45mins before I went (26g Protein, 48g Carbs), I dont think I could eat anything or drink more than that.

The gym I workout at (local Y) opens at 5 am usually start by 5-10 after. Been doing it for 6 years now and it's the best.
Can get to any equipment needed, ABSOLUTELY NO DISTRACTIONS (candy store is CLOSED that early)

Feel Great and invigorated all day. Have to go to bed early, but it's been working for me.:D

I get there about 5:15. I'm a morning person. :D I always have extra energy on my gym days (M,T,Th,F). Now I look forward to my workouts. I didn't always though, and by going in the mornings, I was less likely to skip. Then I found out how great I felt afterwards, and I was hooked!

by doing your weights early in the gym...there's usually noone there to bug ya. eveyone is usually on the cardio equipment.

I used to do my weights in the morning for a couple of years, but changed it up this summer. Now I only do cardio in the morning and go back at night to do weights.

I'm thinking of switching again b/c sometimes it's hard to come home from work and head out to the gym, instead of coming home and realxing cause you did everything in the morning...

My gym is totally packed in the evening, and I don't know about you guys but I like to be alone to work out. I don't like smalltalk and I HATE waiting! So I try and go in the morning, as early as I can. I don't eat anything before I go because I can't work out with food in my stomach. When I go home I have a shake and some carbs, and I'm in the best, most energetic mood all day! I swear, I feel great. And I am SO not a morning person. Yeah, you have to go to bed early but I think it's worth it

anymore advice for food before the am workout? is a protein shake with carbs the consensus choice?
thanks
