Standard self defense tactics are round in the chamber always, safety on. All the better if you carry a glock as theres no external safety to fuck with. In emergency you either arent going to think of racking the slide or you wont have time. If you dont feel comfortable carrying with a round in the chamber you are simply adding an extra step in the emergency self defense process, and therefore adding more risk to your life. If you can deal with that more power to you but i personally like every edge i can get since its my ass on the line in the event i have to draw down.

If you have a gun and you carry it in public...

Under what circumstances would you use it? For self-defense? Against what? If somebody is a threat to you? If somebody is just being a really big asshole? Are you prepared to kill somebody?

I don't know anybody who carries a gun down here, except law enforcement and some hardcore crims.

I couldn't imagine killing somebody myself.

In Illinois, you are required to have a Firearm Owners Identification Card on you at all times you are transporting a weapon.


I think this is the worst state as far as strict gun laws. A CC is not legal in this state

Considering how common road rage, dui and just drunken violence are I think it's a good thing people don't carry guns down here. People would end up shooting each other all the time.

Those forcible felonies, rape, robbery and kidnapping are very rare here. Burglary may be more common, but our murder rate hovers around 1 per 100,000. Car accidents, work accidents and hospital errors all kill far more people each.

With the high Asian population here I have road rage all the time... never once was my gun drawn nor even in the thought process of being drawn.

Where do you live? At my previous residence there were four murders within 2 blocks of my home in the three month span before I moved the fuck away from that hood. Three of the murders were between people who knew their killer but one was a random victim shot by a car thief. With incidents this common, good people want to have the ability to protect themselves and loved ones. Unfortunately, that's life in certain parts of the USA.

When I had my old permit and carried a gun, I always found myself much more calm even if someone tried to mess with me or verbally threatened me. I would quickly turn the other cheek. That doesn't mean I was a pussy, I was simply doing everything I could to AVOID having to draw my weapon. Someone could be a total prick to me and I would ignore it. When you know that you have the power to easily kill someone, it's much easier to ignore someone that's being an asshole. You do not ever want to take your weapon out of the holster unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary.
