Who has a CC permit?

Lotsa mean-spirited gun-toting conservatism up in this piece.

Just sayin'
lol

I'm too lazy to argue my point, society is different down here. If you carried a gun in public 99.9% of all people here would think you are fucking crazy or you're a criminal.

So, if nobody has a gun - self-defense is relatively easy against no more than 2 or 3 people.

b0und (still don't need a gun)

See the problem with that statement "someone who is not a law enforcement officer"...requires you to have a belief that the Law enforcement officers are ANY better than your average person. Most LE's are power happy and abuse their power anyways. We just had an issue at College Park in Maryland where police got caught on tape beating down some students, unprovoked. If these power happy pricks can have guns, the average person should be able to have some form of protection as well. If someone swings at you with their fists then YES it is excessive force to then shoot them, but if they are beating you to the point they are trying to kill you, they are swinging a knife at you, or yes, smashing you with a baseball bat, you probably WONT HAVE TO SHOOT THEM, but pulling a gun on them, if they dont have one, will probably make them stop and run away. Most of the time, once the people learn that you can easily end things, they will either stop, surrender, or run. Just because you have to PULL your gun, doesn't mean you have to fire it. Obviously you should never shoot someone that is running away, shooting someone in the back is one of the most cowardly things you can do. If all criminals know that EVERYONE is an easy target and that no one can fight back, it would be a happy place for all criminals, they would really have no worries. Giving the people a right to protect themselves in this day in age is almost a requirement in some places.

with posts like this it's not wonder that Baltimore is a perennial power in murders. all those scenarios you mentioned? bullshit. if you are in altercation like that and you pull a gun, that person is either going to try to disarm you and use it against you, or make you unable to use it. if i'm hitting someone with a baseball bat and they pull a gun, i'm gonna continue to hit them. why the fuck would they run? a gun fires projectiles, a bat is useful only in close combat.

You guys should make yourselves even safer by banning all knives, sharp sticks or anything that could be used as a bat/baton.

I'd come visit if I thought you aussie's were properly disarmed.

When exactly is that?

When somebody aggressively approaches your car?

When they hit your car with a baseball bat?

When they hit you with a baseball bat?

When they just throw a punch?

When somebody steals your wallet and is trying to run away?

What gives a gun owner who is not a law enforcement officer the right to decide when to use deadly violence in public?

I can think of a whole lot of scenarios where I may be threatened or even harmed but would not be justified in killing somebody.

b0und (not a pacifist, but I really don't want to kill somebody)

The answer you are looking for is that you draw your gun when you feel that your safety or your loved one's safety is in imminent danger. It's an after the fact determination for the criminal justice system. The prosecutor will examine the facts. If the prosecutor thinks it was a bad shooting then it goes to a jury. Juries are not sympathetic to thugs. If you shoot someone that broke into your home, you will probably not be convicted.

The biggest deterrent isn't actually shooting someone. When you draw your weapon against a threatening person, that person will not likely continue their attack. That probably happens 1000 times for each time a civilian shoots someone in self defense.

As for your other comment, people who are hot heads frequently calm down when they know they have the power of lfe and death over others.

You make some very good points. But, if you or your loved ones are in a situation where death or serious bodily harm is likely to happen and you do draw your weapon, please use it. If it's well within your right to draw you should follow through and fire. Anything could happen and in that second you hesitate to use your weapon to make the situation worse. I'm not telling you to shoot someone in the back as they run away, but if someone is going to harm you please shoot them. If anything it will teach them a lesson and more than likely stop them from hurting someone else. I know for a fact if I'm ever in a situation where I have to draw my weapon it's getting used.

Southern, whether or not I would fire the weapon is just too situational. If the person sees me reach for my gun and turns around and runs the other way while shrieking like a little girl, I am not going to chase after him and shoot him. If he stands his ground and reaches into his pockets, I might fire a slug into his torso. It's just impossible to say before a situation how you should act.
