Who else here doesn't consistently take their protein shakes???

Just curious because no matter what I just can't stay consistent with it. I hate the way it runs right through me and so I don't feel it's a good sacrafice if I have to go to the bathroom too much. I know I have to start and maybe take it little by little and maybe with food but I'm just not consistent with it. I like to get my nutrition from regular foods but I know it's not practical to get all the nutrition one needs for optimal gains so I guess I'm not doing what's optimal.... :mix:

I'll try to take it AT LEAST for post workout. That should make a good difference just from that. :)

I was getting problems with gas before, but now I think my body has gotten used to it.

Does anyone know if TOO much protein is not good for your health? I've heard of people who have gotten sick from drinking too much protein.

sometimes I can't be bothered, sometimes I don' t eat over 80g protein per day, but as long as I'm getting stronger I don't care, if my strength is not increasing sometimes I'll get a bit more serious.

The same people who say that the most important part of training is resting and that streching should make up 25% of your workout and the cheese in pizza is good are the same people that say that protien will kill ya.

Doesn't the body process the protein as its broken down into amino acids? Isn't it possible drinking too many shakes has an adverse effect on the body. It seems like we are over working the bodys ability to break down the protein, and not giving it much time to re-cooperate.

interesting post mike. i have to force myself to drink a shake in the morning and i give myself at least 15 minutes to drink it as i am getting ready for work, taking one sip at a time. the shakes do often go right thru me. i am off cycle now but when i was on i stopped and i was still putting on weight.

I love my protein shakes. I drink at least 2 a day.

ivkk: I only know of two possible side-effects of large consumption of protein.
1) Protein + Milk: Stinky poo poo genocide-like farts that make you want to kill yourself
2) Protein + Lifting Weights: hard tumor-like growths all over the body

I take breaks and supplement with real food, when on gear I drink them religiously,if im not on I use food, Im like variation sometimes I dont break 100g of protein a day but thats rare, depends on my mood

I think we all get tired of taking all the shit now and then. Especially in the morning when we are the most tired and just want to lay there for another 4 hours. Then the next thing you know, a third of your day is over and no shake or meal in you,

Whiskey

I have AT LEAST two (one MRP, one post-training, and one pre-training - which I dtch on off days (post that is).....) a day for the past 2-3 years............youch....burns a hole in your pocket.......

i never drink shakes, once in a great while i will have some muscle milk

shakes

I have a bunch throughout the day on top of real food. I have one with breakfast every morning, along side my turkey sandwhich. A PW shake. 1-2 shakes at work on top 6-6oz chicken breasts spread out over the course of the night (Bonus of working in a restauarant /bar) and one b4 bed. Then one more in the middle of the night when I wake up to piss. I eat plenty of real protein food, eggs, chicken, turkey and lean beef. Shakes taste great if you know how to make them. They help add extra protein and calories, and cost a fraction of what even more eggs and meat would cost. Tuna is cheap, but A-it tastes awful, and b-too much mercury if I was too eat it all day.

I try to get in 2 shakes @ 50+ grams of protien each per day. I never drink 2 shakes in a row for meals. Always shake-meal shake-meal. I eat alot of chicken and eggs as well.

SOunds to me........

like many of you bros start you morning off with a shake???? Man...aren't you craving food? What does your diet look like?

My first meal (after cardio) is 3/4 cup steel cut with about 6-8 eggs (2 yolks).....splenda, cinnamon.....mushrooms and cheese in the eggs...........but, I guess it's because I need to save my shakes for work when it would be hard to scramble of some eggs...........

I've been on protein shakes morning and before bed for the past 4 years. pretty much the same taste too. i dont drink them for flavor. i do it for function.

actually i would be LOST

woops.. sorry,

ok conitinued. i would be LOST without protein shakes. whenever i can't get time to eat i fill up with them. always start my day with one and ALWAYS go to bed with one.

if i take too much in one shake then i get gas out the ass so i just cut back the amount of scoops.

Wouldn't live without them

Scaggs

i prefer getting in my protein from food- beef, eggs and milk especially. shakes do have their advantages- convenience and the fact that they allow u to get in more protein. but then i don't like to go above 250gms of protein/day. so there are days when i won't have shakes at all- depends only on the time factor.

i sometimes wonder whether shakes are a must as the protein manufacturers would have u believe. i know the theory about post workout- but i usually have a pretty big meal 1hr before i go to the gym. usually get in about 40g there. and same thing post workout. so i think it eliminates the "necessity" of a shake. besides straight after a workout and i am starving and have to keep myself from going overboard with potato chips and other junk.

Well I must confess that I don't take it every single day.

I've went from 3 shakes a day to 1 shake a day and I haven't noticed much of a difference. I do notice though that with less shakes I eat more real food, which I think is better then all that liquid protein. I think 3 was overkill especially at the amount I've been eating at lately.

I do three daily and think it's essential in order to get all of my required macros in.............impossible for me to put down 400g of solid protein...........

3 shakes per day,I couldn't function without them. I'm constsntly leaving work to go home every hour to grab something to eat!

i like mine better with water nothing else but water

oz of water and one scoop (20 grams of protein) and drink it super cold with a glass water too :)

i am waiting on a 10 lbs bag soon :)

I work from 7:30am to 5:00pm. I wake up and have 1 Scoop of Protaquest Precision Whey Protien with 4 egg whites plus one whole egg, two peices of toast with I cant believe its not butter and grape jelly. Before I go to lunch at 11:30ish, I would have eaten 1 can of tuna in oil drained, a 33gram protien Met-rx bar, 1/4cup almonds,1\4 cup raisins, banana. For lunch I have 2 chicken drumsticks, a lean cuisuine meal. then till 5:00 pm Ill eat a 24 gram EAS protien bar, another banana,apple,2 egg wites from hard boiled eggs. Come home and take a Twinlab Andro feul pill, Eat 1 packet of oatmeal with raisins, and honey to sweeten.30 minutes or so after taking the andro pill, Ill take a scoop of EAS Phosphegen XT creatine, 5g L-Glutamine powder, 1 tbs of Amino Feul by twinlab, and mix up one scoop of Methoxy pro to drink during workout, after workout, 5g L-glutimine, 2 tbs amino fuel, 1scoop methoxy pro,raw potatoe or another packet of oatmeal. Then I'll eat something for dinner and have 1scoop of Protaquest protien, and the final tbs of aminofeul. Also when I get up to piss I will eat a banana, and another scoop of Protaquest protien. Also troughout the day I take a 7-keto feul pill, and at night sometimes z-mass. All cheap supplement, but just until I make the big dollars.

I only drink half a scoop post workout, but add BCAA's, natty peanut butter and flax seed oil.

Add Ronie Coleman to your list. He admited in a very recent interview that he doesn't even use a post workout recovery drink. This was confirmed in an interview with his diet guru Chad Nicholes. That's food for thought.

Why doesn't Coleman use a post workout shake? I was under the impression that, that was supposed to be the "Best" meal of the day.

parkerjones, he doesn't feel its necissary. He eats a high protien meal when he gets home.

....waiting for someone to say he could have anothre 20 lbs of muscle if he used a whey/dextrose shake post workout.

He could have another 20 lbs. of muscle if he used a whey/dextrose shake post workout. : )

jubei, now I'm waiting on someone to say the Bill Kazmier could have benched another 100 lbs and Dave Polumbo could have another 50 lbs of lbm (thus being the undesputed largest bodybuilder in the world), if they ate alot of carbs.

People who really do not understand nutrition assume too much.

jubei, so what's up bor? How have you been, and why is no one postin on ETS today?

he doesnt drink the shake because he wants the room for his 1,000 calorie meal.....if the p/o shake benefitial? Absolutely.......do you have to take it? Absoultely not.......is it the fastest way to get the necesary nutrients into your body...........absolutely, just short of intervenous..........

i hate protein shakes, i do like these "high protein" bars from powerbar that have 24G protein per bar.. 4 of those a day is a good extra 96 grams, and they taste great!

but when i was drinking shakes, i would get the protien as dissolved as i could possibly get it into 12oz of milk.. then i'd do the man show chug on it, slam it like a beer chugging contest... god i hated it, but it was a quick 30+ grams of protein

ive tried a couple different kinds of protien bars, and cant stand any of them. so figgan chewy, and taste like shit to me.

Bars are 99% junk...........ok...90%......mostly fillers and shit you dont need nor use for positive gains...............powders aren't the best (as real food is numero uno) but are benfitial........just ditch the bars........

ronnie is a freak - if you have not seen his video he probaly eats a couple of chickens a day... All he does is eat in his squad car and train... AWESOME...

i feel more dense physically when i have one mrp and a couple of shakes on top of 3 real meals... I could never put down 6 full meals a day, i have tried, i cant do it (i weigh about 265)
