It's a great sport to learn. The mind gets cleared out on the water, nothing matters except the next wave. I can't surf anymore because I have an artificial hip, but I love watching. have fun.
Hopefully I'll have a couple of pictures up next week. They probably won't be the best quality though since they were taken from shore with a disposable camera.
It's a sweet board and a good make, but If you want a board to grow with...
Go a little shorter so when you do get better it will be
a more challenging ride yet not so short that you can't learn on it.

That board was a VERY close 2nd. The reason the other board won out was because I won't get much water time each year (unless I luck out and get stationed near the coast) so I won't advance in skill very quickly. Also, I weigh in about 215 right now and my target weight will be up near 240. I just wonder if the Natural Surf Mailbu would be a better fit since the Mini Mailbu is a bit shorter, narrower and thinner.
It will be a toss up between them when (if) I ever do buy a board.
I have a huge smile on my face right now. I'm so glad you got the chance to experiance surfing, it is truly the best nature and adrenaline sport ever combined. It is awsome, I love everything about.
Damn Fro, I really didn't know you were that heavy. I'm at 205 and do OK with a rental similar size 7' 5 board
Maybe the 6 inches will be better, but as I understand this style board, it is very buoyant for it's size and believe me you will grow tired of a Long board after only a few dozen trips.
I saw this line in the web ad for the Mini under effects and wondered what it really meant. adaptable to heavier surfers
Well, I've spent the last hour searching the net for any indication of people river surfing a standing wave. I can't find anything, much less for Colorado rivers.
My fiance just had a friend move out here from San Diego. A cool surfer guy. I told her to tell him we were going to start searching for a ridable wave around here.

Hell yeah!, I will rank the feeling of catching a wave almost equal or better than sex, and you wouldn't understand what I'm talking about unless you have surfed a wave. The feeling of it is so great that it becomes an immideate hook. All my worries diappear when I surf. I live in South Florida but travel all the time up upstate to surf. It does get pretty savage days before any major huricanne or storm hits. One week last year I've saw 12-14 feet in Forida, the waves were turning over small boats and they had a small craft warning out, it was sick, scarry, it may you think twice before going in. I got railed bad by this 8 footer, it draged me like if I was a little paper doll, but there is nothing like a good hard pounding wipe out to learn a new respect of the ocean. I'm going to Costa next summer to surf, cheap and fun.
