I agree with you about the lack of knowledgeable people at the helm. The whole "push the sponsors, only the sponsors" model also drove away men who contributed and actually knew what they were talking about and wouldn't just toe the line. God forbid anyone post a negative review of a sponsored product, only to have said sponsor get removed a week later in favor of a new sponsor who would then be pushed with equal fervor. Who's going to trust the opinion of a mouthpiece? And why would a new person stick around and add to the community if they got limited advice that was obviously a sales pitch?
Meh. I get that it's a business, but there's better ways to make money than relying on new people who don't know any better. My .02.
