when you squat do you...

It's safer and proper to keep the weight on your traps.

You're actually doing more work if you press the bar as you go up, and most importantly, it takes away from your concentration on the lift.

exactly

Just lay it on your traps and pretend the weight is not even there. Concentrate on your form and not the weight.

Well first of all I would never let the bar get near my traps..but I lift for power not quad development so that point is moot. However pushing the bar up while you lift is NOT a good idea. In fact just the oposite is true. You should be pulling the bar down...tryin to bend it across your back...with your elbows under the bar (not chicken winged behind you). Pulling the bar down keeps your upper back tight and creates a more stable lifting enviroment.

If you don't let the bar get near your traps, where on your back do you put it? I couldn't imagine the bar going anywhere but your traps (for back squats).

Yeah, I was kind of wondering the same thing. From what I've seen, most powerlifters utilize low-bar placement. Why have you elected to use high-bar? And, even then, technically, it's resting on atleast some of your traps.

A high bar placement is the same as resting it on your traps. Perhaps I read what you wrote wrong. I personally place the bar across the rear delts....there is a little groove there that the bar fits right into. And to me that is alot different than placing the bar on my traps. Sorry if there was some confusion.
