When to wrap the knees?

Is there a rule about wrapping the knees? I get some pain in my left knee when I squat, should I start wrapping it? Or is there a certain weight you should wrap both knees? Thanks.

I have never wrapped my knees, If your knees are giving you pain when you squat most likely your form is bad.

I wrapped them ONLY when I squatted 700 and 800 last weekend.

I wear knee sleeves when I do events though...

Hatfield said not to do it. All hail Hatfield.

Why would he say that?

A problem with your squat form is possible. I'd get someone with REAL experience and knowledge to take a look at your squats the next time you're in the gym training. However, like myself, you could have perfect squat form and still have some pain associated with lifting. It could be attributed to the wear and tear from several years of lifting.

There are no rules of thumb in wrapping your knees. If you were training for a competition, practice in the wraps in the weeks prior to the meet is definately a good idea. If you're simply training, it's probably counterproductive to add wraps since it does put a fair amount of pressure on your knee caps if you like them tight. I've noticed that using neoprene knee sleeves during training and ice when I'm resting at home helps me deal with it.

That's a competition. There's a difference. Training w/wraps leads to injury, according to him.
