whats the best way to widen chest/ribcage

pullovers with a heavy dumb- bell strick movments, good breathing technique... lay your back over a bench sideways doing this.

also, heavy benchpresses and breathing, especialy incline bench helps widen the rib cage...

Seriously though... I've never seen one shread of evidence indicating that the ribcage can be "stretched." That rumor was pretty much started by Arnold, who claimed dumbell pullovers "expanded" his ribcage. Maybe you can build up your serratus, pectoralis minor, lats, etc. But actually changing ribcage on a physiological level? I don't think so. If it were possible, it would take CONSTANT pressure from behind the ribs applied for LONG periods of time. Sort of like how ancient egyptians used to change the shape of the skull by tightly binding it. But that was also done from infancy when the bones are more malleable.

if any of u have it, i just looked in my musclemag encyclopedia of bodybuilding and it had a little info about doing some sort of breathing squats, i just remembered this so i will dig it out and post some info
 
I have read differing opinions on this topic. I personally believe that the ribcage can be expanded while the cartlidge / connective tissue is still somewhat pliable in teens and young adults. I think once you have reached a certain age, you are unable to expand the chest to any degree of significance due to a hardening of the cartlidge / connective tissue. Not saying it can't happen, but I have read conflicting articles about the effectiveness of these excercises. Hell, it won't hurt to try breathing squats super-setted with pullovers just for kicks. I'd like to know if you get any results from it and how old you are.

Go with Nystrip's breathing squats and pullover's.
If your older than about 24 the pull over's probably won't do much, or so Arnold say's and who am I to argue with DA MAN.

im 17 and a late bloomer so this can definetly help and i still havent filled out yet.. what exactly are breathing squats.. and i pretty much understand what a pull over is.. im definetly willing to try this out. The only equipment i have is a bench, barbell, and dumb bells.. im 6'1 140 pounds
 
hey gorlim, the best way for you to fill out is to eat all day. eat good foods and eat a WHOLE lot of em, and youll fill out.
as for widening your chest, do a Wide grip bench that will make it a little wider. i dont think you can expand your ribs...but who knows. if you make your shoulders and back wider it will make your chest look wider too.
