I was wondering if I am maxing out right. here is what I do to find my max bench;
start with a warmup 20 reps with the bar
then I do a set of 4 reps with about 60lbs less than my estimated max. then I will add 20lbs and do one rep then add 20lbs and do one rep, add another 10 lbs and do one rep, then add about 5-10lbs and try do max out with that. my question is am I taking to long to work up to my max weight or am I doing it right. please give me your suggestions and let me know what I should change if need be. thanks

Everyone works differently on this. The main thing is to make sure that you are warmed up very well and stick to the basic same warm up routine each time. To a 400+ bench max...here is what I do.

Bar x 20
135 x 12
225 x 4-8
315 x 1
345 x 1
365 x 1
Max out set!!!

This works well for me...but it will take time before you find out what works well for you.
