hey bros I have really benifitted from this board so far and probably a dumb question but how does one do the two excercises mentioned in the question? sorry if this is a dumb question but I just learned squatting form today and man i'm hooked and sore :)

chins are a great mass builder for the back.
go to the chinning bar, grasp it with an thumbs over-hand grip, hang from the bar, and cross your legs this will protect your lower back and stabalize your spine.
From this position pull your body up with the power of those lats, bring yourself up so your chest, which is puffed out when you are approaching the bar, nearly touches the bar, keep your elbows as far back as you can.squeeze the lats at this point, then slowly return to where ypu strated. dont just let your self fall down, controll yourself.

peace

A good morning is when a young man wakes up after a long nights sleep to find his.........oh sorry your talking about something else

Good morning is a lower back/hamstring exercise.

i recomend using ONLY THE BAR for the first few times.
otherwise you better make a permanent booking at a chiropractor.
The bar is placed in the same position as you would a squat. have your knees slightly bent. bend over using your lowerback. slowly rise again to upright. get the person who ran through the form for the squats to go through this exercise with you.

ALWAYS keep the weight light on goodmornings. It is an exercise that can easily mess up your back if done improperly. Be careful with this one!!!!

ALWAYS keep the weight LIGHT on goodmornings...WTF??!

That is the quickest way to a weak back. True he should use light weight while learning form...but the goodmorning is no more dangerous than any other exercise. And it is one of the greatest movements for developing the posterior chain...where trus strength comes from.

One of the common misconceptions about the good morning is that you just bend over. You have to be sure to SIT BACK also. This will keep the barbell from getting too far in front of your center of gravity.

If you are a beginner I wouldnt incorporate goodmorinings into your routine.

WHY NOT??!

It is a great movement for building the core...the foundation on which furture gains will be built

Im with Hannibal on this one.

I didnt include them in my routine from the start.......and now that area of my body is way behind.

The chins should be mandatory. Get the technique down so that you are using your lats to perform the majority of the workload instead of your bi's. Follow the outline that Welsh power house has outlined for you...that's the way they should be done. I see too many guys butchering the form of this exercise. IMO chins are right up there with squats, dips, and DB presses as bodybuilding mandatories.

The goodmornings are a little different. If done too fast or too heavy they are the best exercise in the gym to really injur your lower back. If you're a newbie, I wouldn't worry about them unless you really want to. If you do, be careful at first. Form is paramount. If you want a superior hamstring exercise, do stiff-legged deadlifts. If you wanna train lower back, use a lower back machine or do weighted hyperextensions. Even squats will strengthen your lower back when done properly.

I've simply stopped doing goodmornings since I pulled my lower back out doing them about a year ago. Don't get me wrong, I think they are still valid as a bodybuilding exercise but I don't do them anymore and I would advise you to be careful with them if you decide to do them.

good mornings are definitely not a beginners exercise. master the hyper extension and the SLDL first. get some strength on both and you dont have to worry about good mornings.

chins are good. ever wonder why gymnasts have such wide backs? hmmmm.....must be they are eating thier wheaties. or all the overhead pulling. i dont know. :fro:
