KB we are talking about having their sexual organs cut off with unsterile instruments, no anaesthesia or anasthetic. Completely cutting off a woman's clit is cruel, period. There was a story that I read where they sewed a young girl's vagina so tightly that when she started menstruating, menstrual fluids could not be expelled for several months. Her lower abdomen distended. Her ignorant parents thought that she was pregnant, so they beat the little girl to death. I don't care how open minded you are, you can't possibly think that cutting these girls up is acceptable. Female genital mutilation has to come to an end.

I was making a larger point about the way people think.

Believe me, I get the entire argument against cultural prejudice. In my opinion, I am extremely open minded about other people's cultures. I am not open minded, however, about mutilating little girls' bodies. Lots of these little girls die of infections and complications.

Well, I don't completely buy your premise that there is no right or wrong, and that there are only beliefs about what is right or wrong. Some things come down as a matter of natural law. I think this sort of thing falls in the category as being an aberration of natural law. Some things are right and wrong, period.

That is the very argument that I thought he was making -- the argument that it is just one culture judging the norms of another = cultural prejudice.
