What is wrong with people?

yeah, same assholes who take a young girl to a "coming of age" party where she doesn't know what to expect and then ties them down, and cuts out their clitoris with a dirty implement. Then, some sew the labia together. CRUEL and STUPID! This sort of woman hatred in certain parts of the world has to be stopped!
Read the link. It was done by their own mothers to reduce their attractiveness, and chance for rape

Either way though it's a stupid practice, and yeah I think there belief is stupid. They can do what they want I guess, but doesn't keep it from being stupid. Implants are also stupid. Took some growing up on my part to cut through the bullshit and realize that one though.

The problem is, nothing stays separate. The fact that news of such a practice made it to CNN is evidence of a leak. When it starts to impact other cultures/beliefs is when problems start. The seed's already been planted here, there'll be some far left group over there soon enough to "help" them, involving our country's resources/money. Politics spread like wildfire and are about as equally chaotic. Hell I couldn't care less either if they all stayed over there and did that, whatever suits them. Too late now.

People believe Lincoln wanted to free the slaves. Nope, he wanted what was best for the nation.

Well, it hit CNN via Reuters. The same text can also be found on BBC and other news sites.

I wonder what some other cultures think of women who wake up every morning, apply paint to their faces, cover themselves in scented liquid, and alter their height and breast appearance....
KB we are talking about having their sexual organs cut off with unsterile instruments, no anaesthesia or anasthetic. Completely cutting off a woman's clit is cruel, period. There was a story that I read where they sewed a young girl's vagina so tightly that when she started menstruating, menstrual fluids could not be expelled for several months. Her lower abdomen distended. Her ignorant parents thought that she was pregnant, so they beat the little girl to death. I don't care how open minded you are, you can't possibly think that cutting these girls up is acceptable. Female genital mutilation has to come to an end.

I'm not taking sides here or judging, but there is no right and wrong in the world. There are only beliefs. If there is a country out there with it's own belief systems, in which all members are a part of, then I don't see a problem with it. Speaking from a level most of you don't seem to even know exists...

Seems to me that a lot of you are judging other cultures through YOUR cultural lense, which isn't fair in the least.

But what I find interesting is that in these countries, it always seems it's the women who have to adjust/change in order to prevent sexual abuse/molestation, etc......It's the women who have to have their bodies completely covered or disfigured (breast ironing, genital mutilation, etc) to prevent the men from finding them attractive as opposed to say, removing 1 testicle with a sharp piece of glass at the age of 8 or 9 yo so they won't be as sexually inclined......

:whatever:

Yes, HidnGod, it is almost always done by the family. In some cultures the mom does it herself. In others, they take them out and there may be a whole bunch of girls and they will use the same knife to go from one girl to the next without sterilization. I am talking about FMG here, but it is analogous to breast ironing.

Thank goodness the practice of foot binding stopped. Many girls were left where they were permanently crippled.

I did a very extensive paper on the practice of female genital mutilation when I was in law school. In my opinion, the practice should be considered a human rights violation under the Geneva convention.

I feel very strongly about this topic.

Men, imagine having your penis removed against your will with a dirty knife because someone thought you should not receive pleasure from sex.

HR, the sad part is that tragedy like this will never end (it's definitely not normal to mutilate someone's natural biology and alter their natural biological functions). It would be nice to think that it could if we all worked together and did something about it, but in the end it's idealistic thinking. I do understand KB's basis of thought on some path here though. Anyways how much resources/effort are we, the world's babysitter, willing to spend to change other people's beliefs? That seems to be a popular theme these days.

Similar to the outcry several months ago with dogs & cats being caught & eaten in certain parts of Asia.
