What is the NO 1 tip you could give someone regarding diet?

Make sure to eat enough! One of the main reasons diets fail is that people practically starve themselves. The body is very smart - if it is faced with malnutrition, it will react by switching to "low flame" mode. That means a slowed metabolism, a stubborn retention of fat, and the propensity to get rid of what costs the most energy to maintain: muscle!

Regardless if your trying to gain size or lose size. Eat "fist sized" portions of meals every 2-3 hours daily. For a minimum of 5 meals daily. Consisting of a low fat protein and a Low GI carb. And it's ok to through some fruits and veggies into the mix for 2-3 meals.

Example meal, a fist sized piece of boneless skinless chkn breast, and a fist sized sweet potato, along with a cup of mixed vegetables.

These are all great tips!!!! I don't want to get side tracked at all, but can someone post a link to a thread why carbs and fat are bad together?
Thanks!!!
Keep those tips coming because this is what makes elitefitness truely a great and helpful site!

I don't have a link, but just to clear up a misconception, some carbs and fats are okay to mix, along with a lean protein source. For example, eating low GI carbs and EFAs with a protein source will slow the rate of absorption without causing an insulin spike. I eat salmon with brown rice or oats quite often and don't have a problem maintaining a low BF.

The problem occurs when you mix high GI carbs and bad (saturated or trans) fats as doing this will cause you to spike your insulin levels, which combined with dietary fat will lead to BF storage. This is why foods such as ice-cream, croissants (sp), muffins, chocolate and donuts have no place in a BBer's diet!

Avoid simple/highly processed carbs (sugar, white flour, etc) and trans/saturated fats like the pest.
