What is the best martial art to take strictly too

Boxing/Muy Thai + BJJ/submissions=best fighter u can be. Don't be fooled by all the chi & drunken tiger talk, lol. A guy w/ an amateur boxing background, and a blue belt in BJJ would easily murder 99% of "kung fu" guys...and fast.

IF your serious about fighting then get into Muay thai and BJJ ... Both of these are very fast to learn, With this combination you wont lose. But there is a little pain in getting started.

I'm sure people who train in MThai and BJJ have been beaten before

Dude , there are probably more CMA instructors in the states and Canada than in China anymore . Communism wasnt too kind to the Martial Arts when it went through China , bro .

My Instructor is in NYC , but most Metropolisis have SMEONE decent there . At least god enough to get you started with the Skils & Drills needed ! Going on the "Trips To China" is something unscrupulous instructors sell to Martial Tourists . Your REAL Training takes place EVERY day , at HOME .

Tell me your City , Im usually pretty good at finding Instructors of Quality . And like I said , mostXingyi and many Bagua schools teach the Bear form as part of their curriculae , Its just hard to find a school that is ONLY bear because it has kind of been "Outmoded" from a "Martial Technology" standpoint although its VERY Important in Upper Body Harmony methods .

btw, why is the kung fu stance so open faced? should your hands be at your face the whole time (ie boxing, kick boxing?) isnt it kinda dangerous? just curious.

depends
against an untrained buffoon you can leave your hands at your sides and be relativly safe
against a trained guy a really open stance is a mistake

Now that I think about it it ALSO Illustrates how even a LITTLE bit of MA training will do WELL against someone that knows NOTHING !

I mean , MOST ppl just DONT know how to fight !

I think that as big a newbie as that kid was he pretty much proves that you dont have to be a freaking Gracie to defend yourself in a Streetfight , and that "Kung Fu" DOES work !

I don't think defeating an untrained guy is much proof for Kung Fu's effectiveness
if the Kung Fu guy got KO'd would you be claiming Kung Fu sucked?
probubly not so it is a two way street

Being a karate practitioner for 24 years and a Jujitsu practitioner for 15 years I would lean towards a combination of the two. Perhaps even Hapkido. Another very effective and practical art is Bando (Burmese kickboxing). Also called Thaing. Karate is only impractical if you have a closed mind and do not crosstrain in several styles as well as other martial arts. Also at the base level karate looks very ineffective. At the very advanced levels it is quite effective. You have to be creative in your training and keep an open mind. Thats my opinion. I think all arts, systems, styles. have value.

could you outline Bando/THaing for me
in what ways does it differ from MT

from looking at the video
that kids stance was shit
he would have been slaughtered by someone with some training
(or even some experience)
but it didn't really look like a wild hook to me

Öhh.. prob thai, kickbox or muay the thing is to sparr sparr sparr and get that fighting mind but seriously are u kidding me, 99% of all fights end on the ground? wtf are u in highschool or something? I would say that 99% of all fights DONT end on the ground in a wrestling match. And I talk with experience atleast where I'm from.

Actually , thats pretty much what MAs are for . To defeat those relying only on their Natural abilities and agression .

Actually the GIST of my MEANING in that Post was that Some Training > None .

Are you intentionally being Obtuse here ? I mean , OF COURSE "A Lot" > "A Little" ! I mean , duh ?

No SINGLE encounter PROVES anything difinitively , and I thought that the ppl here were already Intelligent enough to know that , so that it went without saying .

I also think that I criticized the kids blatantly poor training methodology enough in this thred to make my Position clear . He should be Sparring more , and Shadowboxing less . He should also be hitting the Pads and Bags more . Youre arguing as if I DIDNT say these things , and as if ALL "KONG FEW" IS THE SAME , wich it ISNT . There are good schools and bad ones , and this kids schools training is halfassed at best .

Individual > Training > Style .

The above guy is a TAD goofy with the Cultural stuff , you know the white guy that tries a LIL too hard to be Asian , but if you can stomach that he IS technically pretty damned good , and DOES offer Sparring . Tell him youre interested in Internal MA for fighting , specifically Xingyiquan (AKA Hsing I Chuan) and Baguazhang (AKA Pa Kua Chang) Theyre both listed HERE :
