yeh so say the magazines and ads for grappling videos. Don't get me wrong its good to know how to grapple, i also do BJJ and wrestling, but if thats all you've got in a street fight, be prepared to get stomped/smashed while on the ground. Street fights are almost never one on one, last year i was in maby 7 street fights i only grappled in 1 and i think only 3 or so were one on one.

I know a guy whos all grappling and in a 5 on 5 street fight whlie he was on the groud wrestling with 1 guy another guy smashed his OWN beer bottle that he was drinking a minute before on his face. Now he wouldn't have needed those stiches if he had KO'd the guy early on, a good boxer can KO a normal untrained punk in a heart beat.

I've seen many fights even 3 on 1 and 2 on 1's get finished in a matter of second with a few good punches, wouldn't you rather finish the fight like that?

"90% of street fights goto the ground"
that is only true for untrained dickheads who don't know how to use their fists and throw punches properly the fight doesn't need to go to the ground if you can finish it while standing.

It is good to know some grappling especially defending takedowns like sprawling to defend a double leg and choke holds, and in a strictly one on one situation BJJ has been proven to be the most effective (Royce in the first UFCs), as long as you don't get KOd first.
I think on a more important note is why did you get into 7 street fights last year???
Probably need to re-evaluate how you are living bro. Too much fighting.

definately street defense oriented stuff like krav maga, kali, jeet kun do, systema, cqc. i am currently a muay thai and bjj practioner , and i have to say both of those would be useful for self defense on the street, although the other ones that ive mentioned would be so much better. if i mount the guy for an arm bar, chances are his buddys gonna stab me from behind. 1 on 1 though, that would probably be in my favor. although you can clinch someone in MT and then keep the other attackers at bay. ive heard this from a few instructors, but ive never had the misfortune to actually use this technique yet. later on, i want to take more boxing, mt, bjj , but i also want atleast 2 years+ krav or kali experience under my belt- just so i can be a very, very well rounded martial artist. hopefully fight in a few vale tudo tournaments in the next few years too. whatever, its totally up to you, but im not too big a fan of karate, TKD, akido, and especially nin jitsu (way to many scammers for this one), though thats just my humble opinion.

you can't garountee you are able to keep the guy you are clinching with between you and his friends
you can assume it's a safe bet if the other guys are inexperienced but that's not really a safe assumption

exactly. i never said it was the only thing you can use if you have MT training under your belt. you can also knock all of them out really quickly or just run away, my point was that even though i take MT and bjj i would put much more faith into krav maga or systema during a confrontation on the streets against multiple opponents. if it is one on one though, you can bet i will tear the guy a new asshole.

IF your serious about fighting then get into Muay thai and BJJ ... Both of these are very fast to learn, With this combination you wont lose. But there is a little pain in getting started.

Dude , there are probably more CMA instructors in the states and Canada than in China anymore . Communism wasnt too kind to the Martial Arts when it went through China , bro .

My Instructor is in NYC , but most Metropolisis have SMEONE decent there . At least god enough to get you started with the Skils & Drills needed ! Going on the "Trips To China" is something unscrupulous instructors sell to Martial Tourists . Your REAL Training takes place EVERY day , at HOME .

Tell me your City , Im usually pretty good at finding Instructors of Quality . And like I said , mostXingyi and many Bagua schools teach the Bear form as part of their curriculae , Its just hard to find a school that is ONLY bear because it has kind of been "Outmoded" from a "Martial Technology" standpoint although its VERY Important in Upper Body Harmony methods .
