What if my Glutes get more sore from squatting than my Quads?

wow.. amazing.. well this seems to be unanimous that it's a good thing..

I guess my next question is.. then.. what supporting leg exercise do you use for quads?

I tried doing those a few weeks ago and I seriously forgot how.. like forgot how for I was supposed to step forward.. forgot how far my knee is supposed to go over my foot.. etc..

Lunges are a HAMSTRING movement! This seems to be a common mistake around here, lots of people think they're for the quads. Alot of people also seem to think squats are for quads too.

Do some hacks for quads, and maybe some leg extensions or reverse step-ups every so often.

lunges are primary quads, than glutes, lastly hamstrings.

let me edit this to say- if your primarily feeling them in your hams- than your lunge is to wide.... a larger step places more emphasis on the glutes & hamstings, a shorter lead step more quad.

Sorry if I sounded like that was directed at you...didn't mean to sound like a dick.

But lunges are "supposed" to be an eccentric hamstring exercise. You lunge forward, and your hamstrings are lengthening, and you want to stop as fast as possible and come back. The stopping part of the lunge is the eccentric hamstring movement, and the coming back part is a concentric quad movement.

So I guess it's both, but the exercise was designed as an eccentric hamstring movement...the fact that it also involves some concentric quadricep movement is just an added benefit.
