i obviously dont wana be bloated before going to the beach..any suggestions?
i was thinking WPI, water and flax?

Well, now - I like to have my food AT the beach, picnic style. Let's see now, I usually take all my favourites:

hummous and fresh, homemade wholewheat pita
fresh Greek salad with LOTS of feta and olives, and walnuts for extra texture, with a good homemade garlic dressing
a bunch of dalmades
a few packets of crisps
several large loaves of fresh-baked french bread - preferably some of them converted to garlic bread
a watermelon
several fresh mangos
maybe some apples
a large dish of crudites: carrots, celery, cucumber, and whatever else looks good in season
babaganoush, to complement the hummous
garlic and yoghurt and parsley dip, to complement the hummous and babaganoush
several large chunks of different kinds of cheese - especially blue, camembert and mature chedder
several bottles of hearty South African wine, both red and white
a large container of water
some soda water (for white wine coolers), and some other soft drinks - juice, whatever ...

Mmm, I think that's it. Maybe a rice or pasta salad, or a quiche, for something more substantial.

OMG, I cannot WAIT to get back to Cape Town! :D LMAO

Sorry rez - diet's killing me. Eat whatever you feel like, girl. I'd say whey'd bloat you, but you know your body best.

tunisian date pastries.... oh wait, that's because Tunisia was the location of my last beach holiday....

I don't disrobe at the beach much, I burn too easily. I just lie in the sun and snooze, go swimming, drink sweet north african mint tea in the beachfront cafes...

Well I will probably slapped down for admitting this but I took Spatts approach when it came to preparing for my vacation at the beach. I pretty much did a precontest diet up until a few weeks before. I still did not look the way I wanted in my bikini, so I did the extreme and went on a protein shake only diet along with a salad here and there. I was in a piss poor mood the whole time, but come bikini time, I was turning some heads!!!! You were probably asking based on a short term visit to the beach but my suggestion would be to get really drunk the night before or the day of...that way you won't care either way!! Works for me!

Ummmm, it's a strange question for someone who LIVES at the beach......I guess you keep it light and eat it several hours before you go swimming so you don't get cramps while bodysurfing. Dry toast or a bowl of cereal works well for me. If you're looking for something to TAKE to the beach for at picnic or whatever, my best advice it to avoid anything that sand can stick to. This would include almost everything that SteelWeaver mentioned except the wine, water, or bread. Of course cheese balls are also pretty good in sandy situations.

May I add that you're likely to float better if you're a little 'bloated'...

Wine, water and bread .... well, it did OK for biblical folks ...

Forgot about the sand - Cape Town beaches all have these ENORmous boulders where one can set up camp for an almost completely sandless beach experience. But a little sand never hurt my hummous experience. Unfortunately, this is a student days beach feast. Nowadays, thanks to my ascent from blissful nutritional ignorance, (dammit) I'd be worrying about mixing carbs and fats in the hummous, eating fruit, blah de blah - but dammit, LIVE A LITTLE - when I go home I'm gonna have me one of these feasts, and I'm going to enjoy every guilt-free morsel, and my muscles will grow large and full on the carb overdose. :D

rez, I'm not FROM CT, but went to school there - most beautiful city on the planet, you'd have to agree. How long were you there?

I'll tell you in a few weeks whether Sydney comes anywhere near it - I'll be there for my comp - if you come watch the women's open in physique at the Gay Games, you'll see me ...

uuuh... eat? it's too damned hot here to eat! Just have a drink, man!
crystal lite lemonade
[ahem... dieuretic effect an hour or so before... or]
diet coke and
don't forget the beach toys for the kids!

Homemade whole wheat pita? How do you make that?

The same way I make wholewheat pizza crust :D

Er, sorry - it's been so long since I made it, I don't recall exactly, but I think it is pretty much the same as ww pizza crust - water, yeast, ww flour, salt, bit of olive oil, I think. I have the recipe at home somewhere - will check it out for you, OK?
