what about drinking?!?!

I like to go out and have a few drinks everyonce in a while. I very seldome get drunk but I will 5 or 6 times a year. I know this can't be good on my body as far as getting stronger and bigger are concerned. If I really want to get big should I cut it out all together?!? What about just having a couple of beers everynot and again?
 
if u do it about 5x a year that aint really bad,if you was to be doing it every week than it could effect your goals (BEER BELLY) :) kidney damage:(
 
At your age, a few beers now and then is ok. While technically, alcohol, especially beer is really bad for your diet, I think it's beneficial to your overall happiness to let yourself have fun now and then. So don't sweat it. The gym will be there long after your hangover ends. :)
 
i agree with Y - lifter.

besides, unless it's a job lifting is just a hobby and shouldn;t take over your life.

don;t let lifting and diet make you a sad bastard.
 
Drink if you will, drink if your able..if you drink with me, I will put you under the table!!!

I am a powerlifter and I drink a lot and get pretty drunk too. It wont fuck up your training if yo0u schedule your training around it..if you decide to go drink, train a lot right before you drink!! This way the carbs in the alcohol will go to your muscles and make you strong! Also dont train the day after drinking..Arnold used to go out and drink a few days a week, so should everyone over 21!! Cheers!

alcohol is a diuretic that will direct water out of the muscle. A catabolic situation.


the reason thata rnold could get away with it is prolly from all the dbols he took that helped him retain water.

btw, alcohol is a sugar that has a different structure to conventional carbs (eg mono, di and polysaccharides)
 
When I drink a lot of beer my piss is clear...so I stay hydraded by drinking water along with the beer. All that technical stuff about beer is bullshit too, sure if you drink every night then it will fuck you up but if you drink mostly on the weekends you are fine. Just dont get dehydrated and dont be a wussie and be afraid to drink because of that bogus hype about the so called bad carbs there. I drink a lot and my lifts keep growing bigger. Nutrition is way overrated in growing strong. look at PRISIONERS!! What do they eat, 3 little crappy carb and fat meals with little protein and they GROW FAST cause they train hard. Dont support those pussy supplement liars and those stupid nutrition gurus. If you have superior genetics all you have to do is train hard and eat and drink whatever whenever and you will get big and strong..works for me! Now go head for the mountians of Busch...beer!!
 
Make a decision about how quickly you want gains to come. If you want them very quick, ditch the alcohol. Otherwise, a drink here and there won't be a big deal. Realize, however that every drink, every twinkie, every deviation from diet is once tiny step to slowing your gains.
 
Drinking does slow down your gains but sometimes you need to let a little steam off. When I know i'm going to drink I make sure I don't let myself get to dehydrated. Dehydration sucks for the body and carries over into the next day. Drink a lot of water and vits and you should be ok.

So true. I believe good eating has more to do with keeping your muscle than developing it. Besides, a drink or two a day is good for you.

I think you mean a glass of red wine a day keeps you healthy. Downing 2 glasses of beer a day is not going to improve your physique.

Personally, I believe that nutrition is 80% of the battle. You can train as much as you want - that'll refine what you already have, but it is food that is going to make you bigger.

Youre having it very seldom so i dont think you need to cut it out altogether, just if you are a heavy drinker when you drink, minimize the ammount of alcohol you drink on that night :)
 
The hangover is the biggest killer, plus the fact that 6 pints will slow down your metabolism by something like 35%, plus the fact that t-levels will plummit for up to 48 hours.

Alcohol is the best t-suppresser around.

Its simple though, if you're serious about fitness then cut it out altogether, if your not, dont.
