Weight before and after cooking

I know that some foods such as beef change weight from before they are cooked to after, they loose some weight. Does chicken change much from raw to cooked. For example would 8oz. of chicken raw still weigh 8oz. after its broiled. Thanks.

Bump

I was wondering the same exact thing.

I just use a formula of multiplying the oz cooked by 1.5 to come out to what it weighed raw.

I don't know if it's right or not, but I've been seeing results....

Just use the same measurement, raw or cooked whichever you prefer, and stick with that all the time. This is what I do, I do cooked...that way this is really what I am eating.

The ratios and caloric measurements you see in charts are usually based on raw food, unless otherwise stated. The weight you see food lose is usually water and/or other liquids - like blood, fat is also something cooked off. You should use raw food measurements, especially for meat.

It would be a less weight after cooking. Correlate the statement I made above ^ to steak, as an example. Steak shrinks in size as it's cooked more and more, medium rare is going to be bigger in size than well done, due to liquid and fat loss.

Bottom line, whichever you choose to use, pre cooked or cooked, just use it all the time. You will be fine. I have always used cooked myself, and use it continuously. Even on contest diets.

Mr. X is correct in that most stats refer to raw on packages and charts.
