Video of Chuck's 1,000-pound squat posted!

My old room mate (mark swatling) this last feb 2001, did the iron island meet down in NYC, he took his 2nd attempt with a 770 on the squat and ended up tearing both quadracep tendons in his legs, one of the spotters broke his leg. He was in a wheel chair after the surgery until july. He is doing pretty well now and is planning to pull a deadlift at the Albany, NY YMCA meet this coming feb. He is already pulling 640 for 5 off the 100 pound plates. I have also seen Dave Barno at the world cup back in 2000 tear both hamstrings and then dump the weight over his head while he was warming up on the squats. I have seen some serious injurys (I myself tore a tricep tendon doing a raw bench meet this past march taking a 570 on my 2nd attempt). Injury's will happen, it doesn't matter if the equipment is there or not, when your time comes, you won't be able to do anything about it. The best way to prevent injury, is to train correctly for the meets and don't try anything that is way out of your grasp. WHEN YOU GO TO WAR YOU ARE BOUND TO COME OUT WITH A FEW SCARS!!!

I am sorry to see one of my records has fallen, I am no longer the most negative on this board. I am sorry for coming off as negative, but I get VERY emotional about powerlifting. I judge all lifters as I judge myself, which is very, very hard. I am most negative to myself that is how I keep my inner power. I know it is wrong for me to hold other lifters to the same standard that I hold myself. All the people that I have trained with over the years like that I am very intense and that I get VERY mad and psyched up for lifting. I try to have who ever I train with go to that level. I think that I have learned it from watching and reading the great KAZ. When I am training with someone, if a squat or a bench is no good, I will be yelling at them why I think it is. But if it is good, I won't say anything. I don't believe that enough strength is ever enough, so by saying nothing that person knows that they shouldn't be satisfied with where they are. They themselves should be happy, but know that when we train next week they are going to have to train even harder. Just my opinion.
