No sound but you can FEEL the intensity...(wouldn't want to get in his way on his trip to the bar!) A BIG thanks to Kelly Sports Video www.kellysports.bizland.com for providing us with this SUPER clip (mpeg file looks better FYI) Look for a complete archive of the BIG lifts on our site in the near future...

Thanks for bringing this clips to us Heavywear.
That is an amazing feat! I can see why he puts his legs far out; less distance for the weight to travel (smart idea)!

That was a great lift but I didn't know that it is legal for your feet to touch the sides of the monolift, I spoke to a national IPA judge and he said it wasn't. It gives you extra leverage.

Nice lift! Gotta love the 'squat crane'! Ridiculous! Whatever happened to the walk out? This guy couldn't even squat 900 lbs if he had to walk out with the weight on his own! He also only moved the bar about 10 - 14 inches or so too! Whether or not he went to parallel is also questionable. This squat being considered 'legal' and a good squat is a SLAP in the face to guys like Pat Casey and Paul Anderson. Paul Anderson in his heyday could squat 900 lbs 6 to 8 reps to parrallel moving the bar twice the distance that Chuck could - no WRAPS, no SUIT, no BELT! Paul Anderson is the twice the squatter this guy will ever be, so I give this lift very little respect considering sqauts that the past greats have done and considering the squats that the Olympic lifters do. Check out Ironmind's training hall tapes for REAL squats! A 260 lb. Bulgarian (Stefan Botev) squats 705 lbs. at the end of his 1 hour long grueling workout. This workout consisted of max attempts in the Snatch and C & J. He squatted 705 lbs., bar high on the traps, narrow stance, no belt, no spotters and walked the weight out of the weight stands by himself on his own two feet ! That lift in itself given all of the factors is WAAAAAAY more impressive then moving 1000 lbs one foot in distance with all of the support gear to boot! No disrepect intended (Chuck is one STRONG SOB), but who is kidding whom here? Things have eroded to the point where this squat is actually applauded here in this forum! I guess some people choose to live on their own little 'Fantasy Island'! Where are Mr. Rourke and Tatoo when they are needed? What's next?

I have to agree, I think that people should be walking the weights out and squatting way below parallel, did you notice that he keeps his feet pushed on the sides of the monolift>this will give extra leverage. He should have got a 3 red just on that fact alone.

PLease enlighten me as to how having your feet pushed up against the monolift gives you extra leverage?? Sorry guys but you get none. Also, Paul Anderson I have to agree was great never competed in a single powerlifting meet. For all we know he squatted 6 inches high. Why in the hell would someone squat way below parallel when the rulebook says you only have to break the plane?? I guess you guys like to lift in the USAPL. I also would have to guess that you like to have your squats taken away from you that meet all the rule requirements btu because they aren;t way below parallel they are no good. I also believe Chuck has walked out 850'ish and squatted it a few years ago before the monolift became so popular. Get a grip with what is going on now and if you can't do that then leave powerlifting. The sport has enough problems as it is and your whining is really not needed.

I agree with him!!!!
How many 220lbers can even stand up under 1000lb?

1-dawg - There is sooooo much evidence (and enough video) on what Pual Anderson could and DID squat in his time and it is FACT. Every single powerlifter in Paul Anderson's day saw his 900 lb. squat for reps. On the Ed Sullivan show Paul would squat (once again without a BELT, KNEE WRAPS or SPOTTER(S), or SQUAT CRANE) roughly 1100 lbs. (1100 lbs. was disputed, but it was at least a 1000 lbs.) of silver dollars. Paul travelled all over the damned country and squatted and pressed and even went to Russia in the 1950s (he is considered a folk hero of sorts in the Olympic/Powerlifting community over there!). I cannot believe that you do not know this! He is the greatest squatter of all time! There is footage of this. He also strictly shoulder pressed 500 lbs out of the rack. on Muscle Beach in front of thousands back in the 1950's. Paul could also bench over 550 lbs. (no GEAR) and he hardly ever even benched! Please do not make comments about Paul Anderson, when you do not even know the history of the man or his lifts. You should read the book on Paul Anderson by Randall J. Strossen called 'The Mightiest Minister'. There are quotes (these people personally witnessed Paul's lifts) from John Grimek, Tommy Kono, Chuck Ahrens, Pat Casey, BOb Hoffman and many other greats of the day that saw Big Paul's squats and lifts. Paul Anderson could walk under an 800 lb. bar and squat it for 6 - 8 reps without a warm-up anytime he wanted to! His stance was only a few inches wider than shoulder width and he went to a little below parallel. Remember - NO GEAR - NO support gear and NO steroids! See if anyone at Westside could do that without support gear or 'GEAR' - NOT! That Chuck 1000 lb. squat is once again a slap in the face and just shows this erosion of the sport of powerlifting. Paul Anderson is probably rolling over in his grave! Most of the old time powerlifters/strongmen think that this type of lifting is JOKE as well. Unbelievable!

If you are pushing not only down but also out against something you will get extra leverage, THAT IS WHY IT IS ILLEGAL IN THE IPA, THE MEET WHERE HE DID THE SQUAT. 1-dog Also Ed Coan did a 1020 squat at the Hawaii Record Breakers meet @220 back in the late 80's (where he walked out with it). The point of powerlifting is doing everything POSSIBLE to lift with in the rules (as many of you have tokd me)-IT IS AN ILLEGAL SQUAT TO HAVE YOUR FEET TOUCH THE SIDES OF THE MONOLIFT, IT IS IN THE RULES FOR A REASON. YOU SHOULD TRY TO READ THEM ONCE AND A WHILE!
