Venison

Hi

Been trying to broaden my horizons with food and have been eating venison, is it any good in terms of nutrition. Protien looks high and fat very low, even venison burgers, but wondered if there was any reason I don't hear a lot about it on here?

Thanks

its great in chile. prob dont hear about it alot cuz i dont know of any mass deer processing plants. might be wrong. i just eat what i kill

i was thinking the same thing. Dunno how readily available it is at the supermarket. Out her in Colorado we just hunt and send the meat to a processing plant.

Had some bison medallions the other day. Marinate and pop on the Foreman Grill....mmmmmm, tasty

that's why I make all my jerkey myself. Too damn expensive to buy. Plus I like to make it and experiment with the flavorings. :D

How easy is it to make? I'm assuming you kill the animal yourself but for me it'll be shop bought meat, still possible to jerky? I love Jerky but it's £2.00 for a tiny pack here!!

You can make jerkey with store bought meat. Hell, while your there have them slice it for you, just be sure to tell them your making jerkey with it so they slice it nice and thin.

Actually, I make jerkey with store bought meat all the time. Really simple actually..you can even use ground beef if you want. Just be sure to use like 93/7 or something close to it. You don't want too fat of beef/meat or it will be really greasy..also if its too lean it will be dry and crumbly.

If you going to make deer jerkey add in some 90/10 beef with it. 1 lb to every 5 lbs of venison.

I use a dehydrator to make my jerkey, but you can use an oven as well. other than that all you need is some cure and your spices which i usually buy in bulk online.

You know what, I might just give it a go!!!!

It's really easy to do....

Just be sure not to dehydrate it too long, other wise it will be too dry (and if your using ground beef, it will be "crumbly")

Also..if your using ground meat, get yourself a "jerky shooter" looks like a big caulking gun.
