USADA to strip Lance Armstrong of 7 Tour titles

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — With stunning swiftness, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said Thursday night it will strip Lance Armstrong of his unprecedented seven Tour de France titles after he dropped his fight against drug charges that threatened his legacy as one of the greatest cyclists of all time.

Travis Tygart, USADA's chief executive, said Armstrong would also be hit with a lifetime ban on Friday. Under the World Anti-Doping Code, he could lose other awards, event titles and cash earnings while the International Olympic Committee might look at the bronze medal he won in the 2000 Games.

Armstrong, who retired last year, effectively dropped his fight by declining to enter USADA's arbitration process — his last option — because he said he was weary of fighting accusations that have dogged him for years. He has consistently pointed to the hundreds of drug tests he passed as proof of his innocence while piling up Tour titles from 1999 to 2005.

"There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, 'Enough is enough.' For me, that time is now," Armstrong said. He called the USADA investigation an "unconstitutional witch hunt."
"I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in winning my seven Tours since 1999," he said. "The toll this has taken on my family and my work for our foundation and on me leads me to where I am today — finished with this nonsense."

More here.

So apparently it's an automatic admission of guilt because he got tired of constantly being hounded by USADA officials' accusations.

USADA: "You doped. Admit it."

Armstrong: "Nope. See my hundreds of passed test results."

USADA: "...You doped. Admit it."

Armstrong: "*sigh* Nope. See my hundreds of passed test results."

USADA: "...You doped. Admit it."

Armstrong: "*sigh, grumble* Nope. Again, see my hundreds of passed test results."

USADA: "...You doped. Admit it."

Armstrong: "*sigh, grumble, arrrrgghhh* Nope. Again, see my hundreds of passed test results."

USADA: "......... ......You doped. Admit it."

(and on and on for how many years)

Armstrong: "You know what, fuck this you stupid fucks. I'm tired of this shit."

USADA: "GUILTY!!!" *Yoink x 7*

Seems to be how it went.

Lance is my fuckin hero
I hope this triggers massive outrage at the USADA

Good for lance

Cannot possibly quantify how little I care about this. Lance did what everybody in that era did so he just beat other drug users at their own game. You'd probably have to go back decades to find a clean Tour winner. The reality is that for five of those wins the runner up was Jan Ullrich. In February 2012, Ullrich was found guilty of a doping offence by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. He was retroactively banned from August 22, 2011, and all results gained since May 2005 were also removed from his total. Does Ullrich now become the winner? This is a complete crock of shit.

Sometimes the end DOES justify the means and in this case I believe what he's done for American cycling and cancer is worth it.

Fucking bang on what D_T said, they're all at it anyway, might as well just allow them to use every drug under the sun & just allow them to be super freaks rather than continuing with the pretence that they're all "clean".

I think doping with your own blood should be legal. Forcing people to go underground with usage is what makes that dangerous.

He was on the fucking jooze. The ONLY reason he's backing down now is because there were 50 people who knew him or were close to him at some time ready to take the stand. Since he has stepped down their testimony will never be heard; Lance is simply saving face

All professional cyclists currently dope or have doped in the past. Unfortunately or fortunately, it is part of sport. Doping in cycling goes all the way back to the Major Taylor days... the 1800s!

Maybe but steroids doesn't make you an instant superman. The guy came off cancer and won it. Also, as if we gave a shit about cycling without him.

Lance is the most tested athlete of all time..... He was clean..... And doesn't give a fuck anymore... That's why he backed down.

DrOiD BioNiC EF App!

IIRC, One of Lance's strongest arguments in his defense was that a government agency like the USADA had no business fucking with him in the first place. It's an international event not even in their jurisdiction. Seems like a good argument to me. It would have been an interesting trial if he kept with it.

Ulrich will get 3 of the Golds even though he had his Bronze taken away for doping in 2005. So they will punish Lance for doping and give his medals to a doper.

The funny thing is, Ulrich doesn't even want the medals:

"I know how the order was on the finishing line at the time," Ullrich said. "I've finished with my professional career and have always said that I was proud of my second-place finishes."

I think after being harrassed for 17 years by a pseudo government agency with government like control I'd throw in the towel too

hell after 3 yrs I think I would have thrown in the towel...
this was nothing but an angry witch hunt and its horrible
they've done a great disservice to the sport

I dont even care if the dude did blood dope....he overcame cancer and kicked ass after...

fuck the USADA

In his book ''its not about the bike'' he details the lengths the anti-doping people would go to in order to surprise him with surprise tests... effing nuts.

I think it would be fair to ask if everyone else in his races have been, or will be, scrutinized to the same extent as Lance has been, before they all move up one place. Obviously, passing tests at the time of the race is not sufficient, so are they pulling out everyone elses 10 year old samples to retest using the latest technology? Are they interviewing everyone elses doctors and team mates?

If they did all that, they might have to go pretty far down the list before they find the true clean winner!

This is not my writing but it is right on....

"Doping will undoubtedly make you a faster cyclist, no argument there. What doping won’t do though is make you win the Tour de France 7 times in a row. A higher hematocrit doesn’t instill in someone a maniacal drive to not just succeed but dominate. HGH doesn’t help you climb back from the edge of near certain death and come back to the sport you love to not just compete but win. Corticosteroids don’t lift you off the tarmac on Luz Ardiden and propel you to victory. All those things will make you faster, they don’t make you win. Cycling is not some magical sport where as soon as a red blood cell agitating needle touches your vein you’re vaulted into the ranks of legends. Cycling is like every other sport in existence, there are amateurs and professionals. The professionals are so much better than the amateurs that it is literally impossible for us to understand the scope of their competitive level. All of the pharmaceuticals in the world aren’t going to turn me into a professional bike racer let alone a multiple Tour champion. There is a reason there are so few dominant athletes across the sporting spectrum. They all share a insatiable ferocity that equates losing with failure. It is not enough to just win, they must destroy. Jordan, Federer, Woods, Schumacher and Merckx (who tested positive let’s remember) all athletes who relished the opportunity to exhibit the superiority of their talent. The list of sporting legends is short because becoming one is so damn impossible. Doping doesn’t make champions otherwise I would have been on the cover of Wheaties boxes years ago."

Alec Baldwin broke Steve Martins SNL Hosting record, investigate him for doping

Neil Armstrong had some killer hangtime on the moon.

He was the first to get there, beating the Russians and becoming a legend.

Test him for the joose? Strip him of his title of first moonwalker!

Default that title to....micheal jackson..

Bernard Hinault - five-time Tour de France champion

“Lance Armstrong is disillusioned and is up against an unjust process,” he declared. ”At a certain point there’s a disenchantment that sets in. Lance is saying to USADA, ‘Do what you want now, I don’t care.’

“Lance was always very correct during his career. What more can he do? All the tests he’s undertaken, more than 500 since 2000, have come back negative. So, either the tests don’t count for anything, or Armstrong is legit.

Pedro Delgado - winner of the 1988 Tour

described Armstrong as “a strong-willed character who has done a lot for cycling” but who nevertheless had many enemies.

“You talk about cheating but rather than trying to get justice, I think it’s more about a power struggle between institutions. You can’t now take away podium wins from a rider who’s given his all,” he added.

“It’s bad news for cycling and we know that the victims are always cyclists.”

Oscar Pereiro — who was handed the 2006 Tour victory after winner Floyd Landis was stripped of his title for doping — described the situation as “pathetic.”

“It casts doubts in everyone’s eyes about the anti-doping system, despite the massive budget at their disposal.

“I’m convinced that the riders who spoke out against Armstrong have done so on condition that they won’t be punished and that they won’t have their winnings withdrawn. Is that right?”
