Trapps

work specifically with shoulders - heavy barbell shrugs or dumbell shrugs - usually pyramid the weight up to either 4 or 5 sets. traps also get worked while doing my deads though

Traps should be performed with your back. I do mine on pull day.

should they? sounds kinda definite even though it only makes sense to work them with delts when they are already used earlier in both the pushing(presses) and pulling(rows) movements of the shoulder workout. Thanks for the advice though I will make sure that I tell all the people that pay me to train them that you said it should be done that way.

IMHO, this is a preference thing. You can do them either way.

They work far better for me with delts. It just depends on how you need to prioritize your training concerning individual goals.

traps are part of shoulder day

3 x 12 :

front delt raises
side delt raises
rear delt extensions
upward rows
military press
db shrugs

In my opinion, that is a terrible routine for delts. Have you ever heard of overkill?

I do 2 sets of DB press and 1 set of machine side laterals for shoulder.

Anyhoo, i don't do direct trap work, well by that i mean no shrugs. Heavy deads are enough to build meaty traps.

Right now I'm cutting and going for definition, so I'm doing a lot more sets at lower weights - so it's not as bad as it probably looks. I also just do this shoulders workout alone - not with another muscle group right now.

shoulders and biceps when I'm going for strength are both right around 9 sets (3 exercises) each - since they are both smaller muscle groups.
