Transformation from bulking to contest day

Thanks bro. I'm feeling pretty good. I'm just concentrating on posing and making some final preparations to ensure that I come in my hardest and fullest when it counts.

Re: done bulking

Onerep you have done on an outstanding job took a look at your latest pics very impressive.

Re: done bulking

Echo...Echo.....Echo........(You look fantastic bro, as I, and everyone else have already mentioned)...seriously!!!!!!

Quick Question, did QuadsweepsSister ever get back to you on the question regarding "Not doing deadlifts after 10 weeks out".......I too am curious......(and like you said, I'm sure there's a good reason).......keep me posted.

Your close to the FINAL COUNTDOWN now......(as the song starts playing my mind).@ 3 weeks and change....so keep it up brother

Not2B4GotN

Re: done bulking

onerep, while you're keeping Not2B4GotN informed on those issues, maybe you can give him a few tips on posing while you're at it, seeing as you know what you're doing - and some don't;)

Re: done bulking

Thanks Boarding and everyone else. I'm going to experiment this weekend and try to drop my water to see if I can do what I think I can do.

SuperQT, well, maybe we should save this one for the BTS forum.....

Not2B, she did get back with me, but not on the deadlift question. At first I was thinking that it has something to do with letting the blood come out of your muscles so they will look more cut. I know that you don't want to work legs about 10 days out from a show so you can really get the cuts. But she said 10 weeks for deads. Maybe there is less chance of injury. Then again, maybe she will see this question and answer it for us. I kind of feel bad because she has really put alot of time in writing me some detailed instructions for these last few weeks. She is really a great lady who is very knowledgable about bodybuilding. You can see that just by looking at her pics though.

Trailerpark, I'm gonna let you two handle this one by yourselves. :) Although I would recommend to anyone who is going to compete for the first time to get a video tape on posing. The one that I got and probably just about everyone just getting into it gets first is called "Perfect Posing" and it really sheds some light on things that otherwise, you probably wouldn't think about.

Hi 1RM and everyone! We talked about quite a few things and i apologize for not responding to the deadlift question. 10 out weeks for deads may seem like a long time from your show to stop. The number one reason is injury. As you become leaner you have a greater chance of risking a pull (think hamstrings, etc.) Everything is so much tighter. Also, many believe deadlifts increase waist width - i do somewhat believe this is so, some will disagree - but i'm wanting the smallest waist ratio possible at contest time. Another reason is the amount of food is decreasing with diet so the energy expended in those larger compound exercises may not be all that beneficial at this point. You are really not building a bunch of muscle as you are only trying to maintain as you decrease your caloric intake.

I was never one to advocate changing my training at contest time until i absolutely have to. I always try to continue lifting heavy, but if i can reshape by doing or "not" doing (deadlifts) or other exercise, i will. Too much time and money is spent in show preparation to take a chance of risking injury or not coming in looking as i had hoped. Thank you 1RM for your kind comments - i am glad to assist you any way i can. I know how much you have put into your preparation and if i were judging you i'd want to put a "1" next to your name!

Re: done bulking

ONEREP.......your back is fantastic !!! Excellent taper Bro.

Overall thickness is very good. Good arm size and in proportion.

But that back lat spread RULES brother !!!! :)

Pump on .....

Re: done bulking

QSS, I knew there was a good reason. Thank you for posting it up. We did cover a lot of ground with all the info you gave me. Just a FYI, I am decreasing water today to do a test run with my glycerol to see how I look tomorrow morning. I weighed 173.5 this morning which is just about where I was looking to compete. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

Dave949, Thanks man, I have put a lot of work into my back. It was one of my weakest points in July at my last show. There are still some things that I need to fix to be at the level that I would like, but as long as I keep making progress.....

Re: done bulking

Right on man, I think I can handle it. Should I edit my sig? I'm excited to see if things happen the way that I hope they do. Ya'll will be the second to know.

Yes, I think a new sig line is definitely in order!! :)

Good point. I wouldn't want to damage my standing in the ESoB.

Awesome progress! You look great & I'm dying to see the contest pix. How's the water depletion going? Man, the last three weeks suck the big one, especially trying to dial in your depletion phases to hit it on the day of the show & not the day after.

Good luck & keep that killer focus so you don't lose your mind in the last few days!

The no water thing is harder than I thought it would be. Drinking Crystal light was taking the place of eating food. But that's part of the game. I think it will be worth it. Trust me, on one is looking more forward to the contest pics than I am. That will mean that I can put my pack down for a day or two before I strap it back on for my next show on April 10.

TPT- Those guys are fickle :) They'll turn on ya.

Elite Society of Bors - not me - so I have nothing to worry about, but I will watch your back:)

Re: done bulking

3 weeks out. I did a little experiment with the water. It will look something like this on game day except I should be pumped and vascular and my posing will be better hopefully. And Lumberg, maybe I'll smile. :)

Sometimes when I am working on my posing from the side, since my lower back kind of stick out a little, it looks like fat (to me). I hope it doesn't to the judges too.

Re: done bulking

It almost looks like your low back are a set of abs. The striations are really coming in.

Re: done bulking

Thanks for all the comments. The mind games are in full force for me right now. One minute I feel like I'm gonna show up at weigh in and ruin somebody's day, the next minute I feel like I'd be better served to stay home the day of my contest and wash my hair or something.

Well - just remember you can't wash your hair for about 3 days after you start putting on that pro-tan...LOL. Just kiddin ya, I think your pics look really good. I can tell you've really worked hard on your water depletion experiment - it served you well. Again - i think your shape is really pleasing to the eye. Remember when posing not to hold those arms out too far from your body as in pics - just a suggestion. You never want to see too much space between your appendages and your body while posing and in stances. Again, I wish you all the best. If going to the Arnold Classic - i'll be at the Beverly Booth...working.

As always, thanks for the good info. I'll work on positioning my arms on the front and back poses. I won't be at the AC this year, but I'm sure that it will be a great time. Don't get into too much trouble. Thanks for all of your help QSS. :)

I've been spending a few hours each night in front of the video camera, making sure that when I hit a pose, it looks the same in my head as it looks to the camera. Things are coming along and I have made some good improvements that I think should help me to show the goods in pre-judging. Thanks QSS and everyone else who offered input. I'm gonna post more pics this weekend. 2 weeks to go!!!

Re: done bulking

Two weeks out. Don't mind the lack of cuts and the bloated gut. It was the result of a glycogen load experiment that went wrong. I'm back to normal now, don't worry. I probably won't post pics again until after the contest. Lumberg, I have been working on smiling, and if I can remember on stage, I'm gonna do it. I'm not smiling in these pics because I thought I had ruined the last 3 months of hard work.

Re: done bulking

Are you going to keep the goat or shave for the contest? Looks like half the glycogen went to the outie- it looks swole as hell bro...

For real though you look great, bloated or not... you are gonna look awesome at the contest bro...

Re: done bulking

Looking good. I like the outdoor lighting.

Also I can see you're squinting from the light and everything. In the side pose your facial expression looks good. You can also see those serratus muscles :)

Re: done bulking

Thanks bors. Yeah, the glycogen went somewhere. Actually, it did what it was supposed to do by filling my muscles back up, thing is, it made me retain hella water. Don't be hating on my outtie, that's gonna be what I use to get the judges' attention. I plan to keep the goat though. Everything from the neck down is and will remain gone though.

JB, you're right about the my legs being ahead. I hope not too much that it takes away from everything else. I know that I fixed a lot of problems that I had in my last show though. Progress is the name of this game. I plan to devote a great deal of attention to arms, delts and chest next time I'm bulking and if I can make anywhere near the amount of improvment that I did on my back, legs and believe it or not chest from July 26, I'll have something.

Re: done bulking

You're going to do fine bro.

One that pose from the back your legs don't look hard, maybe try different ways to flex your legs to make the striations stand out more.

The night after I took these photos, I was messing with my leg poses from the rear and I noticed that if I plant my toe then rotate my knee down and press back, my hammies look sick. I think I got that one figured out. Good observation maing.

Bro, wait till you see the contest pics. I will be vascular in those. While you can see a few veins in these, I was holding a good 10 pounds of water more than I was the morning before. It's gonna be sick on game day. Thanks for the comments.

March 20. It's kind of funny because I have been tanning a lot and my whole body is tan except for my outtie. I guess something about that skin that makes it resist tanning. It looks funkier than usual.

Re: done bulking

Dude, I love your legs. Quads are fucking huge and your calves are nicely split. To me it only appears your chest is lagging, but it could just be the pose. Either way, you're looking good as hell bro, I have no doubt you'll do great!

Dude, jh1 must feel so humiliated. I mean for someone to have a bellybutton that is bigger than your penis....I can only imagine what that feels like.

Re: done bulking

Omega, thanks man. My chest is lagging, but that's not the only thing. I need to fix my delts and arms too. My chest has actually made a fair amount of progress from my last show. Still quite a ways to go, but as long as it keeps getting better I can't be too mad.

Lumberg, my belly button pokes out in my shirts and people ask to see it at the gym where I'm a trainer. There was a pretty cute girl poking it tonight like I was the Pillsbury Dough Boy or something.

Thanks pl_beast. I hope to weigh 220 and be in the single digits BF% one day.

I posted a pic on the anabolic forum for that inspirational physique contest. I figured, why not? It's not like I stay in this kind of shape year round. So here it is for those of you who check this thread. I'll post two of the ones I took today. The top one is the one I chose for the contest. Not sure which one is better, but oh well.

Re: done bulking

I like the second one cos you can see your intercostals and ass better. Also I like your smile better. :)

Also when doing the most muscular aren't your upper arms supposed to be parallel to the ground?

That's not a most muscular, it's a front double bi. I keep my bi's above my delts to try to make them look a bit bigger. Really no requirement on how to do it, I just think it looks better. It was a tough choice for me. There was less shadow in the second one, I think that's why I chose it.

Sweed, I'm glad that you got something out of me posting these. I guess when I look back, it does look like quite a transformation. Yeah buddy! Nice smile! And freaky vascularity in the MM pose. Funny your abs look great in the side tri but not in the front double bi. Maybe the lighting?

Anyways great job, sounds like you're doing 2 more contests in the next few weeks, work on that posing mah brothah and good luck! You have nothing to be ashamed of.

Yeah, dropping the water makes a huge difference. I have a video tape on the way. I'm trying to figure out what I can do to put it on my computer. I'm thinking I either need TV card or put it on DVD. I'll try to figure it out though. I should have some good pics if nothing else.

I did what QSS said. I drink around 2 gallons a day up until the Wednesday of the show. On Wednesday, I get 1.5. On Thursday 1 gallon and on Friday half a gallon. I try to avoid sodium as much as I can once I start cutting water. I still get it from eggs and chicken and whatnot, I just don't add it to anything. Also, starting Wednesday, I only drink distilled water with no sodium.

Re: done bulking

Did you use any potassium during those last few days? That still seems like a lot of water... but if it worked, then thats great! Thanks for the info!

I started taking potassium when I started restricting water and sodium (Wednesday before the show). I took 99mg with every meal (about every 2.5-3 hours) not sure if that is what everyone else does or not, but it seemed to work ok. I was also snacking on dried plums. Plenty of carbs and a lot of potassium.

Thanks bro. I appreciate that. This last experience has been kind of bittersweet for me. I explained it in more detail in the C&C thread. To make a long story short, I lost the overall title by one point to the heavyweight as a result of the good ole boy network. I can't wait to get the pics that I paid for so I can post them up and let everyone here see why I was so amazed. I'm just gonna keep doing my part though and hope that in the future everyone else does theirs. I appreciate all of you guys (and gals) and your encouragement and motivating comments.

I don't believe in limiting carbs or fats just for sake of limiting them. I limit carbs and get as much protein as I can. I suppose that carbs and fat will be limited as a function of that type of diet, but that's not my intent. I suppose my carbs were between 100-200 per day unless I was try to get more in purposely to harden my muscles up.

Sassy, thanks for compliment. I appreciate your kind words. I'm looking forward to seeing the onstage pics too! I'll share'em when I get'em.

Good luck on Friday... not that you'll need it ;)

How do you feel you compare in terms of readiness as opposed to the last contest?

Physically, I'm ready. More lean probably than I was before. Mentally, I barely feel like I have a show in 4 days. I think it is the fact that none of my boys are going to compete too. I hate depending on meeting someone there that will help me with my tan and stuff like that. The less left to chance, the better.
