when training for more muscle/size... do you go 6-8 reps or 8-12??
thanks
thanks

What I do is two sets of 15 - 20 reps for a warm up on a given body part, then everything after that is in the 6- 8 rep range with about a three seconds up phase and a nice five to seven second resistance phase.
Compare
Seconds Per Rep * Reps = Time under stress
3 - 4 * 12 = 36 - 48 seconds under stress
6 -8 * 8 = 48 - 64 seconds under stress.
After all it's the time spent under stress that causes the muscle to respond futher.
Just my thinking.

You are exactly right, and if you read my post again you will notice in my second sentence I stated that it all depends on how long it takes the individual to do one single rep. We are on the same page bro, that gives me more confidence. So thanks for the backing of my statement.

i remember peope saying in the past power = 1-4, size = 5-8 stamina/endurance/toning = 8-12 or moredanielson said:WODIN (or anone else that can answer): question- if you extend the time under each rep (3 sec up, 5 down) how do you maintain fast twitch muscles, or explosivness?
i know its only the positive part of the lift that matters, but if that is 3 seconds will that still promote fast twitch muscle?

Danielson, it should still promote fast twitch since 3 seconds on the extention or up motion as I call it is not that long. It's probably only 1 to 1.5 seconds more than your average rep-ripper.
