Apple - Trailers - James Cameron's Avatar - Large Teaser
I hope the 3D makes the CGI look less.....CGI.

I hate to say it but I am not impressed.
The Abyss > God.
Except for the end.
way too much CGI. I'm going to hate that almost as much as I did Transformers.
Apparently the 3D, which is how youre supposed to watch it, is pretty revolutionary.
Cameron spent the past 5 years or so coming up with it.
i was just about to post this!
this movie looks so fucking lame. it really looks like a jar jar binks family reunion and the cgi looks like the final fantasy: the spirit within movie. is avatar a "cartoon"? to think this is the guy who made aliens.
This movie is going to be his Titanic. lol
it'll make big bucks. That's all that matters.
btw: U got good a glimpse at what the world of warcraft movie will look like as well. lol!

I heard of this recently in another thread, so I'm not aware of the hype. The trailer does not impress at all. It's no District 9.
I audibly loled at "jar jar binks family reuinion"
eye candy is no substitute for good writing and a worthwhile plot.

Yeah but it alays looks good on blu ray, surround sound and 62" hdtv. (Plus hollywood cgi flicks do HUGE business in foreign countries whose local film industry can't create stuff like that. Chinese don't lineup to watch there will be blood or juno).
No one buys schindler's list to show off the power of their entertainment setup.

LMAO! RG, it must make big bucks. Very big. The budget on that fucker probably exceeded the GNP of Sweden.
Plus fx houses like ilm and digital domain don't do this shit for cheap

This movie would not be possible without cgi. Lol I suppose that means he just should never have even bothered. I've never understood the automatic disdain for technical effects, especially when they're representing a setting and characters that are out of this world, so to speak. Hell damn near everybody loved Terminator 2 and that was obviously cgi, and in a real-world setting no less.
This will be the most pristine looking thing anyone has seen on a screen pre-12/18 and it's built around groundbreaking 3D tech to back it up. Expecting a Quicktime trailer to do this movie justice is like eating a frozen pizza expecting it to taste homemade.
Its just kinda dissapointing seeing as how District 9, no matter what you thought of the film, was able to create some of the most photorealistic CGI aliens Ive probably ever seen. On a budget of $30 million.
Avatar's budget has gone past $350 million already.
avatar has lots matte painters, character artists, compositors, sound composers, etc.
District 9 really wasn't that involved. Just a team to build the alien and another to composite. the movie is primarily live action with some aliens thrown in some scenes. Avatar is 100x more complex and requires many companies in the mix.

Doesnt change the fact that the effects in District 9 appear to be years ahead of those in the Avatar trailer.
But, like I said, the movie was meant to be seen in 3D so perhaps we have to wait until then to judge.
District 9 looks realistic. Avatar looks like shit (so far) but I won't pass judgment until I see it.
Very true. A good friend of mine lived in New Zealand for 3 years or so a while back b/c her husband worked for one of the CGI houses and they were doing it in NZ. Be Damned if I can remember what movie it was anymore, but he got very well paid and he was just one of about a zillion CGI grunts on that film.
