wtf is with these protein calculators? according to my weight and build i should take in over 300 grams of protein a day. thats f^&@ing rediculous!!!!
if i take in over 130-150 a day now i get gas so bad i cant stand myself not mention my wife and my blood test came back abnormal for high bun test levels high nitrogen etc.. so why would i need more i think those calculators are totally :mix: off. if i ate that much i would have serious gastro problems anyone taking in this much or feel the same way?

Well, I've been taking about 240grs for 8 months now (6', 215lbs) and have nbever noticed anything seriously wrong. I get the ocassional gas-issue as everybody else, but that is about it.

BTW, I don't calculate proteins on the basis of BW. I calculate protein as a %age of my daily caloric intake.

1.5 - 2 grams of protien per pound of body weight is normal. 3-4 grams is for serious bulking.

LOTS of folks on this board and elsewhere take this much. Mind you it's not all though food. I can't imagine trying to EAT 300 grams of protien a day....alot of that comes from protien shakes.

As for the gas, well welcome to the club! It does subside somewhat after your body gets used to processing all the protien. At first it is just incredible the amout of farts you have. I'd suggest having fun with it. I used to love going into my collegues offices and just letting a good rip go! I once chased my dog to the other side of the room with the smell....lol!

Everyone is different. What works for others may not necessarily work for you.

You have to eat to grow. I'm nearly 180 and eat a little over 275 grmas of protein a day. Its pretty simple really.. either you want it and make the sacrifices.. or you don't.................try protein shakes.

I had the same problem. Went to proteinfactory.com and got a blended protein w/amniogen. I take about 150gr per day, no gas anymore. Dont know if its the blend of different proteins (4different ones) or the amniogen, but it works!!

I bet we all said this when we first started, buck, i take in 430g of protein a day, my stomach feels like crap always, but got 2 do what u got 2 do. I'm just always eating it seems like, but it isnt oreo's, cans of tuna and chicken breast, flank steaks, cottage cheese, milk eggs, and 5 protein shakes with 40g of protein, theres 200 there. So you can do it, but it has to be a good schedule...I go to be everynight at 10pm, I get up at 6am. Lifitng crates sacrifices, no late nights, no beer, no smoke, all those things effect your lifting. Once you get used to it, you can.

you can always prepack protein shakes in a bag with cans of tuna if you are going to be out, pour in some water, shake it up, and you got one. take a can opener and eat a can of tuna real quick.

Protein consumption is another controversial subject. What I think is that you need maybe 1 gram per pound of weight, with a lot of carbs, and SOME fats. Some studies show you only need to have around 15% of your diet as protein. Given the avg diet of 2500, that should only be around 90 grams, this is half of what I think, and 1/4 of what some other bodybuilders believe. The only agreed upon thing is that the best time to eat a lot of protein is within 3 hours of lifting.
What you might want to consider is that if you are eating a lot of protein and no carbs, you are just eating expensive energy. I guess what I am getting at is that if you can down 300 grams of protein, and still down around 500+++ grams of carbs, and some fat, go for it.(probably end out with a 3500-4000 calorie diet) If not, I don't think their calculations are right, and you should eat a lot of carbs.

You could take in 900g of protein a day if you wanted to. But the reality is that your body will use what it needs and piss out the rest. Exspensive piss at that. 1g- 1.5g/lb is adequate.
