Im out of waxy and have been hearing a lot of back and forth about if its worth a shit or not. I just wanted to get some more input and feel out what you all really think.

I do 60g with 50g whey isolate protein within 30 mins of my workout and I think it does me good. I eat a good meal about 30 or 40 mins after....

I am a fan of WMS. I feel it greatly increases my recovery and glycogen replenishment. I catch a killer pump after my post workout shake.

There are other alternatives though.

A lot of big strong guys could give two shits less about a PWO shake. I have a couple of PLing buddies who usually hit the buffet after training. No PWO shakes for them. They are jacked too.

As long as you are eating a good meal high in protein and complex carbs before and after training you should be good to go imo.

I think it was Justin Harris who said, "If guys worried about all their other meals 10% as much as they worried about their PWO shake, then there would be a bunch of big strong mofos in the gym." He actually sells a PWO porduct too lol.

I wonder SL whether WMS has greater relative advantages for you as you subscribe to a low carb diet.

I can't really notice a difference between recovery of WMS versus oats/whey/milk, but perhaps that is because I consume a medium carb diet.

There was a debate about PWO protocols here not to long ago, and the science at this stage does suggest advantages for WMS, although I recognise that many of us consider nutritional science somewaht limited and adopt the mantra results > science

My pre/post workout is (having decided against WMS):

pre: traditional oats, milk, whey, cocoa/cinnomon/splenda OR tuna/chicken/kangaroo + sweet potato or butternut squash + milk

post: quick oats, milk, whey, cocoa/cinnomon/splenda & 5-10g leucine and 10g glutamine

Ive been speculating for a while too, some of the wms tubs are pretty pricey too ive seen. If your overall trying to lose fat only would using it be to your advantage or disadvantage?? Everyone I speak to in person is either extreme yes or no, no middle ground so i wonder what ef thinks

Here's a middle ground:

As for losing fat:
- cals in v cals out is main thing, so difference will be minor
- but real food has greater satiety - so you will be hungrier with WMS while cutting

If there is a difference, consider this:
- WMS spikes insulin more, but does this mean insulin returns to baseline levels quicker than say oats? WMS could have advantage perhaps if insulin returns lower quicker facilitating fat burning quicker.
- whole food more thermic, but the affect of this is pretty minor for carbs and as a % of daily cal burn
- if you find either option promotes recovery, well then you can train harder, retain more muscle and burn more cals.

Don't know. I'm doubting there is any noticeable difference.

Apparrently WM DOES NOT spike insulin at all - its a myth.

Its definately good for replenishing Glycogen stores. IMO if you use it this would be the reason.

Even if it did spike insulin, it appears there is no evidence that a large slin spike increases anabolism. I argued the fact against this, but when it comes down to it - no one can actually provide any evidence.

He gives no link, but Alan Aragon does not make up studies. He claims WMS elicits a high insulin response: Waxy Maize sends me to sleep - Bodybuilding.com Forums
