This forum needs to be controlled by women

I'm recanting my vote against men posting here, however it needs to be clear that women are in charge here, meaning zero tolerance for misogeny (sp?), sexism and general disrespect for women. The lady who moderates this forum needs to be very proactive about kicking boy butt and keeping this about women.

General Chat is fine but it's clear that forum has always been dominated by men. Hanging out in the online equivalent of a sports bar is cool, and I enjoy the company of guys, but this forum needs to be dominated by women and since they outnumber us on EF like 50 to 1 this place needs to be protected very carefully.

Good point -- my thought on the subject is that this forum should be for women only.

But we could never enforce that. You know that male members will create female "alters" in they really want to post crapola here. However, the content and quality of the posts definitely can be enforced. As I mentioned before, any content disrespectful of women in any way needs to be tightly controlled, warnings, post modificatons or deletions, but all done in a very expedient manner.

For me personally, I would only begin to open up and really discuss women's issues if I felt this were a safe place to do that.

Very true Anya. Alters will pop up.

This won't solve it, but can we have the Women's Chat only show if you log in under a female username? (a-la Mod Board?) That way, many men won't even know it exists.

Wait, hang on. You lost me. How would that work?

You can configure forums to be visible only to certain groups, but I don't know that you can, by default, poplulate a group by gender flag or allow access to a forum based on gender flag. I'm sure it could be done.

Back in the day, the women's board was pretty tightly regulated by Spatts and Lobo, and any guy who wandered in and got out of line was told not to come back, and had any posts on the Women's board deleted. That worked pretty well, but it requires dedication on the part of the mod.

I know. And you used to post a lot in there back then too I noticed. I used to mine a lot of the old Women's threads when the search function allowed it. I read some references to deletions and related smack downs back in the day. If I had the time neccesary, was qualified and there was a vacancy I'd up in that mofo promoting the hell out of Women's and controlling content. But you're right it does take a LOT of time to do all that.

If you or anyones sees something that you don't like in terms of an inappropiate post, comment etc...pm me and its a goner.

I am quite sure that the combination of new and old current females mods are fully capable of moderating this board effectively.Come to think of it we do a pretty good job of moderating the other boards.

Whoa whoa whoa...I never meant to imply that any current mod, male or female, was doing a better or worse job than anyone else. My point was that Lobo and Spatts were both on the women's board, almost exclusively, all day long. That's not to say that anyone should or shouldn't be doing that now; merely an observation.

The Women's board is decidedly slower now than it used to be, which perhaps means that it requires less regulation, but it seems to me that it is more loosely regulated now than it used to be. That is perhaps par for the course with a changing of the guard.

Shadow, it used to be that the posts were noticed and gone before a PM was necessary.

Don't everyone get their noses outta joint at me; I'm just trying to offer historical input and suggestions.

I personally think that the women's board has picked up quite a bit since the lul that appeared around late fall/winter of last year.

I also feel that there is a whole new crop of fabulous woman - both mods and members that have come onto the boards which has changed the whole vibe and element of posts on the women's board.

maybe we could instill some "rules" for the Girl Talk forum. and make it a sticky. ive seen this done on other women's forums. LIke "hey guys, read this sticky before you post on this forum". somthing like that

This new forum is an awesome idea, but yes, it will take a lot of work whatever course of action George decides to take. However, I think that the female mods that we have now are perfectly capable of taking care of it. I don't want to see everyone get all excited over this forum though and then slowly drift back to C&C. Girl Talk has the chance to become a place where we can bitch about guys, talk about Girlie Days, or whatever we want without having to face comments from the male members of this board, or rather some male members of this board. Project and some other men on Elite are awesome posters when it comes to the Women's Discussion board or maybe even this one. And Project is also very right about the efforts that it took to keep the Women's board the way it was. It's stil an awesome board, and yes, it has picked back up. I think that this forum has the potential to become just as awesome. Just without the help of any males on Elite.

I just like the idea of an all-women's board. I'd be more inclined to post about some parts of my life here than on C&C.

I feel pretty comfy saying that if there was a lot of nonsense going on in the women's discussion board, it would get thrown out of there. There are plenty of places on the board for horseplay-- that's not one of them.

I agree. I'd definitely have things I might talk about if it was more exclusive than C&C. I don't have girl talk in real life, so I'll take the internet kind. lol.

I wouldn't mind moderating it tightly....As I've said before, if anyone ever sees a post that they find offensive on the WOmen's Board, all they have to do it let me know and I'll delete it. Nobody ever has.....so I assume if they don't speak up, all is fine. And there have only been a few comments I found inappropriate.

As for the "log in" function. As an example.... there is a Moderator Board here. When you log in, if you have "Mod Powers" it shows up. If you do not have "Mod Powers", it doesn't show up. So if you are not a Mod, you never even have the option to click on the Mod Board. Only Mods can see the board exists. SO....if we set that function with the Female Chat Board...then if you log in and your profile has an 'f' under gender, then you will see the board. If your profile has an 'm' under gender, it won't show on the list of boards. Make sense?

Difference being, one is a flag in a profile, the other is a user group.

Not saying it can't be done, but I don't know how practical or manageable it is.

Never thought of that difference. That's why we keep you around, you're so smart. :)

I agree with velvett about this..

Just lets us know if any one gets out of line. And their gone. :redhot: :kapow: I just love to pull out my big guns. :D

I was a mod on another fitness board (that has since been shut down), and the way it was set up was so that instead of creating a gender flag, EVERYONE could see the forum existed. However, only people approved to enter by the mods for that forum/admins could enter. New members were approved by sending a PM to those mods or the admin, who enabled it on their account. Since these people could see IP addresses, they could usually tell when someone was creating a bum account just to get in there (there were a few husband/wife or boyfriend/girlfriend couples using the same IP address, but we usually knew who they were.) I don't know if that would work as good since this board is so much bigger, but it was fabulous because we could talk about anything without the guys, post pics and get good physique advice from the other women without "nice tits and ass" comments, etc.

I believe that men should not be able to post in this forum whatsoever. We discuss issues about our relationships with men here, and I feel it needs to be kept safe and....nurturing as it has been. No need for some guy to get on here and get defensive and start an argument. If they did that, it wouldn't really merit labeling their comments as "inappropriate", but it would still cause tension in my opinion. If I want a guys opinion about something, I'll go over to another board where I'm sure they'd be happy to give it and more.

bump for the newer ladies to add their .02.
Hell yeah Anya I don't want guys to be able to even view this forum. It is ours and you are right on the money about woman opening up. There is no way that woman will open up knowing that the men are lurking here. There has to be some redirect of sorts like your not allowed to view this forum like when something is deleted or tossed in the recycling bin.

I agree... I mean, as we speak, there are guys reading our posts in here & quite frankly we're much more PRIVATE than men are. There are certain things that should just be left alone & they're not getting it - GIRLS ONLY!

It is cause the think when don't think they are watching we are having naked tickle fights  and they don't want to miss any of that action.

SHHH we don't want them finding out about those either!

lol.. and our lingerie slumber parties.
maybe they are worried that we'll share penis pics... I mean... war stories or something.

The guys can't post now. Well maybe BRR! The big sexy dude. :qt:

I really do wish we could have it all to ourselves. No guys post or look.

But it seems that takes some doings. Not sure how.

i'm sure gald we have this place.

i don't think i would still be here w/o it :worried:

this place is just so much safer, and the atmosphere less testosterone-y (when the females are not on ASS of course lol).

can guys read the posts under the search feature?

Yes! I was just going to metninon that. My husband had done a search of my posts trying to find something I mentioned to him and I saw some stuff come up from the women's only forum.

This forum is not as secure as we'd like to think it is. Guaranteed there are pleanty of curious guys who've created female accounts just so they can lurk here.

The only way to prevent this is to have this forum by invite only and for the powers to be to fix the search problem. It's not difficult to do. Just as regular members can't see posts in the mod forum, it would be nice to feel safer here.

That is what I am talking about!!!

One of the boards I am on is invite only, and it's very secure, and easy for the moderators to do......

I too prefer the women's only, I only post in the women's sections as I feel "safer" doing so..
