I would use glutamine only in trauma patients and endurance athletes. You should be able to get enough if you are eating enough protein in food form. If you are consuming 4000 calories a day, with a lot of protein, adding 10g of glutamine is a drop in the bucket.


Absorption is extremely poor, and if it's coming from food sources it is even further impeded. IV glutamine is the most bioavailable, followed by glutamine peptides. You can rob a hospital, or get gplenish (or an analogue). I agree, though, with faller that effects of glutamine are the most pronounced for:
1)immunological afflictions
2)endurance athletes (especially in concourse with high intensity)
3)calorie restrictions and deficit (diet!!)

great thread by the way, I think I thread like this should be made a sticky, then if a newbie or anyone has any questions on things like what happens to carbs/protein/fat when they enter the body they can just look in this thread.
