That has not been my experience at all. I stay fairly lean and manage to gain muscle at a decent rate. Guess it all depends on if you're goal oriented or process oriented. I'm after the goal, but I want to enjoy getting there. So far it's working. :-)

How long have you been working out?

If you are just starting, then its easy to gain just muscle with sub-optimum nutrition.

I can say this for sure that you WILL hit a plateua soon whioch you wont be able to break without some major additional cals.

How much muscle have you gained in the past while?

I bet you could proibably get much MORE muscle fast! If you ate more!

What is your current bf% and bodyweight? How much have you gained previously.

(this post isnt a flame, just bunch of comments and q's)

I'm sure some of you guys have heard of the milk and squats diet? basically drink a gallon of whole milk a day, 1 set of 20 reps of squats? anyway, i do that for 2mo and usually gain about 20-25lbs. To get rid of the fat I use the NHE plan which works well. However, Ive been wanting to GAIN on the NHE plan but it seems very hard to consume enough calories while keeping carbs < 30gm a day. Does anyone know how this could be achieved? I'm talking about like 2k more calories per day. Only thing I can think of is drinking straight olive oil but that shit gets old quick. Any suggestions are welcome.

Eating to gain and eating to lose are two totally different types of diet. You'll fing it hard to put on size if you're trying to loose fat. Think about it - in order to drop fat you need to eat less cals than you burn. In order to put on muscle, you need to eat more cals than you burn! So its very hard to do both at the same time! You need to cycle your diet depending on your training goal.

Even though I give you crap for a lot of things that you post Alex, I give credit where its due. Good article.
