Its not a hard fast definition but it can be accurately diagnosed. It mirrors a lot of symptoms and actions that alcoholics have, except its all sex/jerking off related.
The treatment I got was stop watching pron cold turkey because they said that was what all the problems were stemming from. I did for 3 months, but when its a habit for almost 20 years its a little more difficult than that. BAsically I still watch porn but i dont do the wacky/impulsive/illegal stuff i used to. So, like alcoholics, I can cutback but cant seem to eliminate the need.

I made it 2 weeks and didn't even miss it. Fell to the temptation after that. You can do it. I plan on doing a fast in the future. I'm just in the beginning stages of this life long journey. I keep seeing and experiencing things that make me marvel. Happened again tonight at the hospital. God shows up every time we have these meetings in some form or another. I am going to enter this competition. Here is what I am up against though. I usually smash one out two to three times a day (I do it so I don't get all horned up in public. Preventative measure).

I know that I have the urge to do it 5 times a day ( biological not mental)

I know that when I do not do it I am more agressive ( in a good way)

I am 25-26 if I can stop now it wil be good discipline , and just good for the spirit

I know that when I do not I feel better since porn images are very dirty and really not the healthiest thing to watch, todays porn is pretty brutal

Its a test like any other and I dontr liek the idea of being a slave to the senses

whether abstinince from sex (with self or other) is actually benefical is debatable

so you're saying it's a matter of self control, sexual impulse or just boredom (idle hands are the devil's workshop)?

i'm assuming, but i'd say viewing porn is more the issue here as this is usually the stimulus for most guys. if you take away the trigger for your thoughts/actions and occupy your mind then you shouldn't get those feelings as often, abstaining from porn will help identify whether your behaviour is compulsive or impulsive

I believe you can enjoy this pleaure in such a way that both people are respected, and neither is "used."

I'd argue also that when you are fucking your wife, its not always about love and affection, that is a bunch of crap, many times its about primal urges and wanted to bust a nut.

This is not a bad reason, in fact, it's a very good reason, but don't try to imoralize it. It is, in fact, human nature. It's pleasurable, it's 'me' time, it teaches you what you like to feel in a sexual context, it allows you to indulge in fantasies without realizing them.
For me it has a calming influence, it helps me sleep at night if I'm restless, & surprisingly, if I do it right before a workout, I seem to be able to focus more.
