I thought I would start a thread about advise that trainers or gym buffs give you... that is funny, wrong or just plain stupid.... :p

OK... I went for my BF% and I was pretty bummed out about losing track of my goals while I was moving houses, so 'the trainer' asked me what I'm doing.... she said ...that working out one body part a day is way too little... you muscles aren't being stimulated again for another 6 to 7 days... she said this is a maintenance program... not a cutting program... she recommend that I do a split... she also said that I should be doing 30 min of cardio after each weight session...

shes an idiot..

tris get worked when you do:

arms
chest and delts

bis:

back
bis

etc....

DAMN

..thats why we train to failure as well.....

for me.....my legs stay sore for 3-4 days..NO WAY I could trian them 2x per week

Generally you are going to get the "canned" diet & training from your typical trainer. Especially if they bother to ask what your goals are, or they assume that you want to "get toned".

I've also trained w/ different people that did everythign from have me do 4 sets of 200 leg presses w/ no weight on the sled, to as much weight as will make me throw up at the end of leg day.

The two diets I've been on w/ trainers other than competition goals have worked fine & I learned alot from it. I've learned even more from my competition training, what works & what doesn't. When I start getting questioned by trainers who I feel are soliciting for business, then I will discuss it for a little and then tell them I'm a cheap ass and won't be paying for training, or tell them that I've probably been lifting longer than they've been on the planet and won't be paying them for training.

Exactly!! It's Thursday & my glutes are still hurting from squats on Tuesday!! Even tho I started out light (20lbs added to the bar) I went deep & really felt it.....

I went to a trainer for a series of sessions, hoping to learn something new, new form, etc..... caught him looking across the room when I'm lifting, saying in a monotone voice "C'mon Jen, you can do it" :worried:

Well I had a trainer that told me I should knock cardio out of the way first, and then work with the weight machines. She said this would work in my favor being I wanted to lose a fair amount of fat, and by getting the cardio out of the way that's one less thing I have to worry about. I used to do 30 minutes tread, 30 minutes elliptical trainer, and then do the circuit weights. For some reason I never made it through 1 complete circuit. And, I even managed to almost kill myself when doing the extension (forgive me I forgot the name) exercise. Now, I know better and if I do cardio on the same day, I know it's after weight training.
