alright so i started the 5x5 last week, missed my workouts, then tried starting it again monday, then today i decidd im just gonna do a 5 day routine so i can show myself i can go to the gym and be dedicated. cant follow my 5x5 routine because the gym i go to coses at 10,. so im jus gonna switch gyms and go sun-thurs at night.

I jacked my groin up again too bro. Close stance high bar bbing squats for me from now on. Fuck all that going heavy shit. I got back up to 405 for reps and then blew my groin up with a 135 warm up. Wtf?!?!

I can still DL but it's been in the crapper lately.
 
Did a workout last night, just to get back into it and i am really sore today. Also kinda fucked my knee up doing hang cleans for some reason

Bench: 135x5, 225x16 (F), 185x16 (F), 135x16 (F)

Wide pullups: 8, 8, 4 - 20 total reps

damn 225x16 aint bad man!
 
Yes I was pleased with 225x16. I always stay withing the 15-20 rep range for 225

Anyway, I started the 5/3/1 yesterday. I am doing 4 day lifting and here are my maxes to be safe

Im loving the 5/3/1. Everyday you get to look towards something new, and it is relatively light weight right now but I still feel like its an awesome workout every time. Next workout is squats. I still have to limit by assistance work on lower body days because of my groin. But it has gotten a lot better, it used to hurt to squat 135, but now I can squat 315 again.

Sweet I like the routine. Your squat day is going to be a tuff one with that much squatting. I would do your normal set of squats and work on modified workouts and actually try and help your groin. Example work on Modified lunges (light weight and only go down as far as you can without pain) Each week progress from that SLOWLY. Do the same thing for Leg Press. Also on leg day try warming up a good ten minutes on the bike before any lower body exercises. Lastly stretch, but i need to practice what I preach there.

Squats 5x5
-Progress in weights as needed

Modified Leg Press
-Week 1 start 1/4 down and each week progress

Modified DB lunges
-Week 1 start with BW go halfway down not to the ground

Calves are Normal

Stretch 15 mins and maybe go get some heat therapy after that
 
imo lack of hamstring work

and way more upper body than lower body work

but if you like it and think it will work then try it
 
I was about to suggest leg curls. People will tell you oh leg curls are for pussies and they arnt functional blah blah blah but I like lying leg curls and they have been a staple on my hamstring day since I started a split routine. I get a better contraction that RDL's or hypers and they also hit calves hard. Granted I get a better stretch with a romanian deadlift and I can use more weight but by the sounds of it you cant do romanian deadlifts or hypers so leg curls sound like a good alternative for you.

Why not do this for your lower body day
Squats
Calves
Leg Curls
Abs

just do more sets than usual for the squats and leg curls since they are all your doing...

that is probably what I would do in your situation anyway. And depending on how you squat you may feel like leg extensions would benefit you, but if you primarily squat with your quads then you might not feel the need for them.

thanks bro. Yea i agree that leg curls are gay but im injured so in this case they are not gay. contraction dont mean shit, progression is everything. I think my routine for leg day will be like you said

light leg press

I literally have no reason to do abs other than1x a week

Thanks bro! Ive had it since spring lol, right around march/april. I have not done much to try to make it better, i constantly re injure it playing basketball or other running activities. It is actually almost gone now though, so im pretty stoked. But id hate to re-injure it so im staying away from anything that makes it hurt even a TINY bit.

im starting that routine on monday cant wait!
 
There's nothing gay about leg curls. They directly strengthen the hamstrings and are great for building them up.

The problem is dorks that do leg curls and that's it. You need a pulling type exercise like deads, stiff-deads etc in combo with leg curls to work the hamstring from top to bottom.

I just started doing some leg curls in addition to the basic deadlift and they are already poppin out more when I flex them.

Plus, I doubt there is one pro bodybuilder that does not do leg curls.

I work out with leg injuries also(knees). I found that walking with the treadmill inclined all the way up, with a weight attached to your body works for keeping the gains you have on your legs while you give you groin a rest. I personally have scuba dive weights, the kind that wrap around the waist like a belt. This means you can increase and decrease the weight very easy and its not bulky. Let the injury heel, if it acts up while doin inclined treadmill with wieghts then dont do it. I just read your last post so I guess your groin injury is healed. My bad. Keep up the good work, gives me the desire to start a log. You dont know if your goin anywhere if ya dont know where ya started.

if your on cycle why not tighten up your diet so you get the best gains for your money even if you let it go again once your off cycle?

diet doesnt have to be complicated and hard work bro... and fast food can be a part of it too
 
Honestly for gaining muscle and size eating a super clean diet is not the way to go imo.

I'll be flat out honest and say I purposely try to eat fast food once a day when looking to gain weight. I generally aim for shit that's not as bad as other's like taco bell beef taco's or fish n chips or gyro's. I'll eat burgers and fries 1-2x a week.

I still eat like 60-70% of my food as good wholesome stuff like oats, eggs, tuna etc, but you gotta have calorie bloat. I eat ice cream every night.

Then again I believe in bulking. Eating a super clean bodybuilder diet and gaining 10lbs on a cycle is not my idea of bulking and a total waste unless you're already f'in yoked and lean and just looking to perfect your body with small gains here and there.

Looking at Glad's pictures he is a lucky fuck and has above average genetics structurally and most of his muscle bellies are fairly long. Throw in a fast metabolism and still being like 20 and there ya go.

I agree, except for the ice cream part. Ice cream elevates blood pressure a lot, and all it's going to do is put on fat. I actually don't like sweets in general, except soda. Soda is my temptation, while other deserts are not as appealing to me.
 
Soda is about 10x worse for you then ice cream lol.

I've never heard of ice cream increasing blood pressure. It never has for me.

Sodium will though.

I eat the ice cream because you will gain weight and you'd be surprised what you can eat when you are trying hard and heavy AND are on anabolics.

Gaining muscle and bulking is not 100% about macro ratios. It's also about total caloric intake and ice cream is a real easy way to boost calories.

There is a ton of other ways to boost total caloric intake when bulking, but what usually works best is stuff that tastes really good lol.

I've helped more than a couple guys gain weight. I used to work with this kid that was 6'3" and about 150lbs. He told me he just wanted to weigh 200lbs. He was kinda skinny/fat build already. I told him to eat like he normally does and just try to drink a gallon of chocolate milk a day because that's basically uber cheap weight gainer.

About 2 months later he was up to 183lbs and believe it or not since we worked a fairly active job it wasn't all fat.

I'm talking about straight up bulking though. BULK weight gain. Ya take the fat with the muscle. Alot of guy's are scared to do it though. Those are also most of the guys that never get big at all because big=calories. A 250lbs moderately lean lifter is going to require ALOT of calories especially if he works an active job. And to ever get to that kinda size in the first place is gonna take calories and weight gain in the first place.

I can't tell you how many logs I have read of guys that are like 5'10", 185-210lbs and like 10-14% bodyfat that say they bulk on a clean diet of 4000 calories a day. My response is they either sit behind a desk all day or have the slowest metabolism's ever.

I've dieted down to as low as 155lbs for long distance running which is the exact opposite of my build and also dieted from 220 to 170 for rock climbing and the lowest I ever dropped my calories was around 2400 and that was too low. Infact that's the calorie intake that dropped me to 155.

I live on Carls Jr Charbroiled BBQ chicken sandwiches, and fresco tacos from taco bell. Always a large water although I love soda. I do start my days with eggs/oatmeal/milk. Forgot to mention Jerky tons of it. haha

dont worry about it ghetto i like reading posts, ive never thought about ice cream but it does have a lot of calories. I always tr and get stuff from fast food off the dollar menu and stuff that has protein like double cheeseburgers or chicken nuggets. You got any pics of when you were that low in weight ghetto? Thatd be crazy to see the huge difference now..

kingsolver we live too good of lives to be home all day preppin shit, haha. I wish i ate better tho, right now im making my ex gf bring me breakfast every morning so thats been good :D

I would agree with this for ectomorphs and some mesomorphs. It is not the way to go for endomorphs though. I know from experience :biggrin:

i did 365x1 on cycle last year, and 315x8 last cycle as well. After cycle I was 210, and then i got sick to where i was shitting every 20-30 minutes no joke. I would get up 6-10 times a night to shit. I had a huge fever and i went back down to 190, then i met my gf, now my ex, and i just didnt eat as much for some reason. This time im keeping my gains fuck that

I was 182 at the start of this cycle, last night i was 194

anyway my left delt hurt like a mother fucker from the injection last night, i couldnt even sleep really. I put it in, and by the time i was taking it out the needle was 45 degrees higher than when i put it in! I feel like i literaly sliced my deltoid. fuckin sucks i hope my workouts are not affected

1.5 inch is huge for the deltards. My shit would hurt too lol

Delt shots are so effin easy. The only trouble is trying to inject too far to the rear and squishing yourself trying to inject it. I did that once and while injecting you can't frickin breath cuz you're collasping yourself to reach that far over.

Try a pec shot sometime with 1" pin. Really easy. Hurts only a smidge as you break skin. I get swelling like a ball of oil when I do them that lasts for 4-5 days. Can make squats difficult from the big chest stretch, but that's about the only issue. Give it a try.:evil:

I don't think they even have dip or chew over in england, but it is badass and awesome. Cigars and pipes are fun too. I don't like cigarettes though not much fun and much more damaging
 
ive neverbeen addicted to either, i jus smoke and dip occasionally. When i have money ill buy some cigs, but i could quit any day because i dont even like them that much, i dont like dip that much either, i just do it because its a habit. Im def quitting cigs on 1-1-11 because thats when i train for football!

Why would you do something you don't like that has no benefit? LOL!

sweet man. If you like how it makes you feel than dip is way better, a cig only has 1 mg of nicotine, dip has way more, if you take small dips it has 3-4 times the nicotine, with big ones it has way more, dips I take have probably around 10-12 g's of nicotine

***Sweet workout today. Killed bench, actually killed every lift. Up to 196lbs bodyweight, and strength continues to rise. Cant wait for deads tomorrow, and shoulders on wednesday, then legs on thursday! BTW i only did db flyes because the cable rack was taken, i do not like db flyes at all, they make my shoulders feel fucked up and i dont feel them that good in my chest. So no more of those for me.

Funny story last night i was fucking this girl, and her mom was asleep in the next room so she stopped me half way into fucking her. Im on steroids so of course im all enraged, i tap her shoulder and she turns to me and i slap her pretty hard. she had this "WTF?" look on her face and i said dont do that again. haha fuckin steroids gotta love em, i will be hanging out with her this weekend BTW :)

You know many guys that have dipped for 5-10+ years? Everyone I know has fucked up gum lines so keep thinking that.

I know a few people that have dipped for many more years than that and they are fine. Cancer rates from dip are very low. I don't dip like a can a day and I'm only mildly addicted, I dip maybe 1-3 times a day. I have my 3rd dip of the day in right now, copenhagen wintergreen

EDIT: Thats one of the things I hate about WA is how much dip is here...it's like $2+ more a can
