Technical Guitar playing

Is satriani the guy who taught Steve Vai?

Don't think Satch taught Vai, but I know he was a teacher of Kirk Hammett, the lead guitarist in Metallica. Which is actually quite evident if you listen.

ACtually he did teach Vai, I know it seems weird but he did. On Vai first solo album he even thanks Joe. It's kinda cool, also if you listen carefully you can tell their is an influence from Joe through Vai.

Also, about King Crimson, they are awsome, I really wanted to see them on Tool's lat tour, but we got Tricky, which I liked a lot, but would have rather seen King Crimson. I have heard so much about them through other artists, and they seem like a band that rips up any live performance.

Ooops, I stand corrected. My bad.

Satriani also taught Alex Skolnick from Testament.

Yeah, I love technical guitar players. I sort of play like Paul Gilbert myself. I think I sound a bit mechanical though, not free enough, if you know what I mean.

Impellitteri is one of my favs. Check out Symphony X or Stratovarius.

Yeah I play like old Paul Gilbert stuff..."FRENZY", "YRO" etc....I like Impellittri also... But the two most insane technical players out there are Terry Syrek and Shawn Lane...

Malmsteen is pretty boring right now. After that car crash that man fucked everything up...i love those first releases...i believe that Far beyond the Sun is one f the best songs on the Planet ........

I think I still have two of Impellitteri's cd's somewhere.

The other guitarist in Racer X Bruce Bouiett (sp?) was fucking awesome !!!

Can't forget about Ronni Le Tekro (TNT) one of my all-time favs.

Solider Without Faith & Black Star are two of my favs.

I remember when Malmsteen was first hitting the scene and most of my musician buddies ( who were jealous they couldn't play like Yngwie) slagged him. "Blackmore on 45", was the quote going around. He was the one who inspired me to become a better quitar player and start listening to other styles of music, ie. Jazz and classical. I don't know how many hours I put in learning the songs off those first 3 albums.

Believe it or not, my fav. Malmsteen cd is Eclipse. heh!
