Team sports & Bodybuilding

I would like to know people's opinions regarding whether or not it is feasible to assume I could play a very competitive level of team sport and still succeed in a bodybuilding competition.

I have three days through the week that I have to commit to this other sport, and although I have been bodybuilding for 6 years, I find it really hard to completely give up my other sport. I really want to compete in bodybuilding and am beginning to think I'll try both - I just don't want to set myself up for failure, it may well be a little optimistic to think I could do both.

(For one, the bruises I suffer from may be offputting to the judges!)

I play state league soccer, which means I can't get away with anything less than an intense workout every game or training session.

I would think the bigger question is can you maintain enough energy from a BB diet for soccor? Also is soccer too catabolic to maintain size built up for BB?

By the time I was 2 weeks out from my show I had exactly enough energy to slog through a workout, chug my protein & l-glutamine, drive home, make food for the next day and crash for 8 hours, w/ potty breaks every 2 hours.

If you can do it, more power to you! If not, you may need to choose.

Energy requirements is a major concern. I eat a moderate carbohydrate diet at the moment, but if I was to get leaner I would have to cut down. That could mean sacrificed performance, not to mention possible catabolism.

That is a tough one....I personally could not do that type of activity on a bb diet!! I am quite bitchy when dieting and there is NO way. You may have to find some type of medium between the two. You do not want to sacrafice your performance in soccer, you have to sit back and figure out what you really want to do, and what matter to you most. You can do both, but you wont be able to take it to the extreme and apply 100% to both things, you would kill yourself!! How long do you plan on playing soccer???? you could finish that and still keep training and then later focus on the bodybuilding down the road.....do whatever makes you happy and you get the most satisfaction from!!!

Good on ya Lobo, straight to the point.

Yeah I think I'll play soccer for maybe one more season and then concentrate on bodybuilding. See I really enjoy team sports, but bodybuilding is my passion. My expiry date on team sports will come before my expiry with bodybuilding, so I've got plenty of time to plan entering a competition. Thanks new@gb.
