Squats, Deadlift, Bent Row, Military press – Form Check

foot position
military- maybe im wrong but i though military press was a staggerd stance. front leg toe forward, back leg foot slightly turned out .

deadlift- feet should be hip width, point your toes straight forward. You will generate more power this way. Get tighter, deadlift is mainly hip and back strength. when you start standing up the bar just comes with you if everything is right.

squats- shoulder width stance, toes forward. knees should come down in line with your feet. if you do squats right the power will come mainly from the quads, instead of gluets and hip adductors when the knees flare out.

a military press is actually a standing barbell shoulder press with the heals touching. I didnt take notice but now I think of it, ark's feet were too far apart for a military press too...

Alright, as far as my squats go, how do they look for the back etc? Is there anything wrong in that area?

And for deadlifts, do you think i can do 260lb. with good form? Or should i drop down to 225lb. and work on form? Its 1 set though.... so.

Military Press, i guess i will drop down to 80lbs, and take it slow and steady again.

EM, check your inbox later on, if your still up. Going to send you some stuff.

didn't read any other posts, but here is what i see

Military- You're doing a push press. Drop the weight 15-20 pounds and do them strict. You're also pushing your head forward at the end of the lift as your arms lockout- push your head forward as the bar clears your head. Think of pushing the weight up, not backwards. Don't let the weight drop after it's already down- keep your entire body tight and make sure each rep is controlled.

Deads- Don't jerk the weight up..... also, get your ass down becuase it's going to help you activate your glutes and hips which plays a huge role in locking out. Make it a point to push up off your heels

Squat- will check later :)

IMO his military press is in between a push press and a military press....with a full push press he could add 10 pounds to his current "press" but with a strict military he would drop 10 pounds from where he is. Ark: If you want to you could just do push presses if you like them more, or drop the weight and do strict.

Hmm, i assume a push press involves using my legs? As in what i was doing, sort of getting momentum/power from the legs up into the push?

I think i would stick with strict. I will drop to 80lbs, and record it on Friday.
So exactly what do i need to work on? I got from everyone that -

- After the bar pass my head, sort of push my torso out rather than when the bar is at the top.
- Push in a straight line up, not back.
- Keep my legs in closer, just about shoulder width
- Do not use my legs to assist with getting the weight up

So a question for when i do a strict military press. After watching some videos of you guys, and other people i see that people normally arch there back down, as in lean back and watch the weight go up as they push. Probably don't do that? Just push it up, and as close to my face as possible then get my torso in front of the bar as soon as it passes my head? I will record my presses Friday, with 80lb's and see how it looks then.

Imo, do whatever feels natural for feet position. Just keep thinking you're pushing the weight up in a straight line, not behind your head.

ark watch andalite's new video in his log on banded overhead press you will see how he presses in a straight line.
