I wasnt going to post anything about this because I know the only reason I hurt myself was because I was incredibly stupid.

Tuesday night I tried 315 and could not even get close. I had to sit down on the box with the weight. I dont know exactly what I did wrong but my lower back felt like I got hit by lightening. I finally got out from under the bar by dumping it backwards and off the left side.

After I got rid of it I was unable to straighten up. I stood up in a bent over position with my hands on my thighs. I barely slept that night because of the pain. Yesterday I couldnt lean forward, much less bend over. Today its slightly better but very stiff and sore. I've been blasting it in the shower with water as hot as I can stand and then icing it as much as I can stand.

Spatts could I have herniated disks? If it keeps getting better will I be OK? My medical coverage is really crappy. Are there other things I need to be doing to aid the recovery?

I'm not Spatts but I stayed at a Holiday Inn once, anyways. Walking will help alot, continue with what your doing and see a doc if yu can. Do light warm ups just to get the muscles healing and promote blood flow. Hope you get better.

Please go to a doc and encourage them to request an MRI. It's probably the fastest way to get a good look at all the soft tissue and disks. I hope your ins would cover that? Could be a cluster of spasms, could be a tear, could be herniated, could be ligament damage, could be all of the above...

Please, people, when you're squatting in the 75% or higher range, get a spotter (even if that's just the pins of a powerrack - we powerlifters use those for a reason)! Always have an out!

Anya, please keep me posted. :(

Anya...are you feeling any better...or worse...any changes at all? If you're not getting better definitely go for that MRI.

Hope you are better soon and nothing major happened.

That exact thing happened to me about 2-3 months ago, I just took a week off from the gym and then used lighter weights for the next 3-4 weeks, then I used normal weights, but went easy on any exercises heavy on the back for a few weeks, and now I supersetted deads and bench last night with no troubles.

But her knowlege and dedication to the board, and sport lives on...

She is a fine woman in all aspects of life, family, and sport.

Thanks Spatts and thanks Ms. Puddles (good to see you!) for the quick replies. I've kinda been out of it lately so I'm slow getting back to you.

Spatts I saw a general practitioner Friday because my insurance requires me to first see him before seeing a specialist. He did give me a referral to another doctor but I neglected to ask what sort of specialist the guy is.

As for my symptoms, they've gotten a lot better. Its been six days now and I can walk around like a normal person and I can bend over. I feel it now only when I sit for a while or if I lay on my stomach. The doc did find a small section on my spine about the width of three fingers where it is sore if he pressed on it a bit. It's in the lower back above the arch a bit but I dont know how to be more specific. I can find it myself now with my own fingers but it is only slightly tender now even if I press on it.
Also the area immediately to the left of the spine was extremely sore but that's way better now too.

I hate that I had to make this a public thing because I am painfully aware of what a dumbass thing it was to try to squat that much weight unassisted after 4 months of comparatively light leg work.

Spatts I asked the doc about my hot and cold showers and he acted very indifferent about it but I feel like its helped a lot. Do you think its a coincidence that's my back is better or do you think it was speeded the recovery? And should I keep doing it?

I hope you'll still keep posting here but if you would rather not for personal reasons please email me if you have any further advice for me on this subject. Your help with my shoulders a while back was invaluable. I'm bench pressing now pain free thanks to you.

Hun, I have had three back operations, so I know how you feel...

Yipes! Lord I hope not!

I'm hoping my injury is no where near serious enough to need surgeries.
