So I'm going into Quick Trip

and this old man walks by me and tells me to "smile"

wtf

first of all...

Why should I always be in a good mood? Do men walk around telling other men to smile if they aren't smiling?

Why did he feel like it was appropriate to tell me to smile?

I don't think it's my job to create joy at the convenience store for old men. If I'm not smiling it is because I'm not happy, as I am generally friendly but this was a particularly bad day. Am I not allowed as a woman to have bad days and not smile at strangers without being scolded? He scolded me for not smiling. Im irritated that I can't just walk into a store to buy a pen, that I also have to smile at every stranger too on a bad day.

F*ck that guy.

I would have told him to fuck off. If I were entering a convenience store to buy rum too (dont act like you weren't) and some ass told me that I'd be pissed. I'm also experiencing stress and would be in no mood. Then again maybe he "saw a lady in distress" and that was his only stupid way of trying to make you smile :whatever:

Lol I was buying a pen! I needed a pen and I needed one quickly.

People tell me to smile often. I'm usually frowning though. I've been told that I look mean or angry.

Maybe he was trying to help. I don't know but it irritated me. I remember being told that as a kid. I'd be walking around minding my own business and I'd hear a "smile" from some random

like wtf why do I have to smile all the time

I remember feeling bad about not smiling, like oh maybe Im not a happy person so I did smile more at people after that

but sometimes you are going through a rough patch or whatever and sometimes you don't feel like faking a smile. Like, we all have bad days. I felt like he woudlnt' have said that to another man and it pissed me off. olololol

Yeah I used to frown a lot in adolescence but I do smile when I feel like it. I just don't when I don't. I dunno why people have to smile when they don't feel like smiling.

Maybe I have bitchy resting face

loololol

I was hoping this was a story about being in St Louis and some Mike Brown protesters were about to tear QuikTrip down.

to break the plastic seal on your rum bottle?

Ughhh I'm with you on this one. I get told to smile all the time. I totally have resting bitch face. :(

I'm not mad. That's just my face. Geez.

I consciously smile all day when I work just so coworkers or clients don't think I'm pissed all the time.

Lies. You would't dooshit

You wouldn't have done dick.

And, it's fake ass responses like that one that cause men to continue to say stupid shit because you gave a cute smile and acknowledgement and it makes us feel good.

It was an automatic response to smile when told to. For a second I felt guilty for not smiling and having a bad morning.
