So I got a shit BA degree. Anything I can do aboout that now

Stern's ranked 9th this year.

Dude, stop talking about sports. Grad/professional schools could not possibly care less. They won't care about your life story, either -- they train business leaders, not college freshmen.

Your GMAT is below Stern's FT average. Subtract about 50-75 from your practice scores to extrapolate your real score, which would still be below their PT average.

Not sure what you mean by "my gpa SHOULD BE 3.6" -- are you still in UG? This is only important if you're a recent grad, because:

Stern's average work experience for incoming students is over 4.5 years. And that's relevant experience with consistantly increasing responsibilities.

The references that matter for bschool are professional work references. Faculty/admin can give a good word, but you must first meet the entrance criteria -- that means glowing LORs from companies.

Where will you get the $80+k/year for this program? Have you calculated loan payments for GradPLUS (6.5%, fixed) with over $100k in debt?

Without knowing your work experience, NYU is definitely a reach... and probably not worth the application fees.

:cow:

I've spoken to the person who will help me get into the program. Supposedly as long as I get a high enough GMAT the rest can be worked out(My bros gpa was way below what their average is and he got in). I won't need to take out a lot of loans, I would still have income from the current businesses we are involved in. I will have two glowing recommendations for sure. I can get few more from government officials of my country. Clearly this is not going to be a shoein admission, all I need is to get admitted and that much I know can be done. The GMAT score can be improved, I will start taking classes. I guess i should just concentrate on that instead of wasting time with other things. The only thing that could screw me over is the lack of work experience. I'm a bit worried there.

That's a type of a business that will get you by but not necessarily get you anywhere. I know bunch a guys who do own construction/redmodeling/landscaping businesses and they live a comfortable live with a boat and a house and what not but that will sort of be the highlight of their young years.

wish i was in their situation right about now

pun intended

yea but those are the businesses which fail. They take out loans and spend money they don't have to work all day. To me that's risky because its a business that can easily fall apart.

seems very economy dependant. when people lose their ass when the economy tanks, they dont want to pay to have their landscaping done when they can save money do it themselves.

yea I mean they are promoting nightclubs on the weekends to hope put a 100 bucks in their pocket on a saturday night.

If there is an ACTUAL need for the your business then do it. Whether it be a landscaping business or not you do it. And if it is succesful you can just pay someone to tend to it as you move onto your next project.

What??? Most CEO's have technical backgrounds (engineering) with MBA

Doh! That was a mistype.

I meant w/ ... not w/o.

I'm not a big fan of an MBA unless there's actually something you can do first (i.e. engineering, chemistry, physics, etc.).

My bad.

^^^ this

Unless you are toting a 780 GMAT and an high-profile internship with GE (i.e. invited to Crotonville) in your back pocket, a lot of those schools are out of reach.
