Sleep

No I don't have any problem with muscle gains. Currently I am around 260 with between 10-12% bodyfat. Am going to try and put more weight on this winter. Not concerned with leaness since I am a powerlifter and not a bodybuilder.

Everyone has their different sleep requirements. If you aren't tired then you are probably getting enough sleep.

I am in total agreement with Scotsman here. I have worked the overnight or graveyard shift for a few years now and have many daytime responsibilities. This limits me to about 3 or 4 hours a sleep a day. When I first started this schedule, was a tired and experience a lack of energy? Hell Yes!! However, over the years my body has grown accustom to my sleeping patterns. So, even on nights where I could sleep as long as I would want I usually wake up in the 3 or 4 hour time frame.

Just like a "desired calorie intake", or a BTM rate, there is a generalized figure that people are going to throw at you. There are exceptions to every rule and one rounded number isn't always going to apply to everyone. It is an average, and with every average there are highs and lows.

I've heard of some studies done on the amount of sleep required by the average person (not weight lifters or anything though). The study concluded that if you slowly reduced the amount of sleep you get each night, say by 5 or 10 minutes each night, you could actually live on as little as 30-60 minutes of sleep per day. However, in the long run there were some mental side effects that took place. Also, I'm not sure how the results would be different if the subjects in the study had been doing heavy physical activity (such as weight training). Anyways, just some food for thought... :)

wow, toga, dacypher and scotsman, i have never heard of that!
ill have to give that a try, i have time to sleep and always try to sleep 7 hours a night. but i have always dreamed of not sleeping at all, ever,,,, now i can at least reduce the number of hours without fearing my body going down the shitter. im going to try to work down to 5 hours..... hmm....
