Shingles?!?! Who has had it?

Tobias39

New member
I was just diagnosed today. I'm assuming it is because of my immune system dropped because of my cycle. Any thoughts?

Anyone else experience this?

I have ceramic tiles. Just kidding bro. I'm assuming you didn't tell your doc you were an aas. I have heard about people getting shingles while on cycle. Hope it clears up soon bro.

They suck! When I had them it was when I was off so not related, but they sucked. Doc. gave me a strong anti viral med that shut um down where they were. They cleared up fairly quickly after going on that med.

I read that if you have a weak immune system the shingles could spread to internal organs and the lungs. I go off my cycle in 2 weeks... I wonder if I should start PCT now.

??

Yeah I had them, but not steroid related. The doc gave me a bunch of that Valtrax and it cleared up really quick. It was funny as he only had a bunch of samples, like one per box, so I walked out of the doc office with an arm full of Valtrax boxes and all the chicks looking at me like I had herpies

Thats because its part of the herpes family. Its a virus like the other forms of herpes.

Herpes = chicken pox = shingles

They are all in the same family.

Shingles is the chicken pox virus that lays dormant in your body if you have CP as a child. It is always in you, it just is suppressed. When your immune system is compromised, it can flare up.

Funny you posted this - I was diagnosed yestrday too. My immune system is down because of being pregnant. It SUCKS. They hurt like hell.

uhmm what are shingles?

herpes zoster, caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox. i have had it. just awful.

it is treated with acyclovir. your doctor will prescribe a high dose at first which may be tough on your stomach. after a week or so doses will be lower. your doc may prescribe vicodan to alleviate the pain.

acyclovir is arelatively new drug. just came out in the 80s. before that there was no treatment for shingles. acyclovir also prescribed for genital herpes.

shingle may occur on face, or back/torso. painful, ugly cauliflower like lesions develop. will heal but may leave scars.

I had shingles 9 yrs ago and they are not fun at all. I was in great shape at the time, but when shingles hit I was stripped of my strength almost immediately. They only lasted about a wk, but the effects dragged on for months.

You get better, just hang in there

My buddy at work had them last May. So he get's some anti biotics on a Friday and on Saturday he wakes up and half his face is paralyzed.

Bells Palsy and he druels now, but basically part of the nerve dies and it just has to grow back, is the slimmed down version. Anyways, it's September now and he still has it because of the shingles.

Messed up, i wish you well sir

Had chicken pox , never shingles . I hope i never get them cause i got CP in my late twenties and it hit me very hard and i was very ill. Not very nice at all, hope you get well

My dad had them about 15 years ago - he said that pain was out of control, and at the time, the drugs did nothing.

He recovered completely in about 3 weeks. Good luck to you bro.

any stress can bring out Shingles....emotional, physical, injury, fatigue, lowered immune system as others have said.....nice thing is it's very treatable these days

It is treatable - but FUCK it hurts. Like a **constant** burning, stabbing pain. I never knew such a rash could hurt so DAMN BAD.

yeah, i came down with chicken pox when I was in my late 20s and shingles developed along with it. THe pain at times was so bad it felt like I was being burned with acid. Just about my entire body was covered, and I had a fever of 102. Most terrible illness I ever had, I looked like a leper.

I didn't catch the chicken pox until 18 and it nearly killed me. Later onset of chicken pox is pretty potent. So if you have a youngun and you know some one who has chicken pox, let them play together.

So is this creme they gave me going to get rid of this shingles?I have it on my arms only so far and it got bigger it just itches now but it has gotten less since I have been putting the creme on its called zovirax and its like 100 bucks for 15 gram tube of it damn the shit is expensive.

Zovirax is a brand name for acyclovir. It helps the sores heal faster and relieve the pain.

Doc said I should steer clear of young women (damn!) - chickenpox and pregnancy don't mix.

That is true, but Shingles and CP are different. They are related, but still different. I am pregnant and have Shingles right now - and there is NO harm to the baby. I have already had CP though - if I had not, then there is concern.

Shingles is not as contagious as CP. A person actually has to touch the sores to "catch" the virus - and even that is unlikely. Only if the sores are "weepy" or oozing (gross) are they likely to catch it. With CP, you just have the breath the same air to be exposed.

Plus, MOST people have contracted CP as a child. If they have already had CP, then they are already carrying the vius that causes Shingles. If you have had CP, then you potentially could get Shingles at some point in your life.

Yeah. It was more of a 'just in case'... she hasn't had chickenpox and... she is, or might soon be, pregnant and...
I didn't feel the need to cross the road to avoid people or anything :)

Nice job .....I have had shingles 4 different time in my adult life. Poeple who have HIV are prone to getting them. They can be very painful and itch like hell. Just leave them alone, don't scatch them, or they will leave bad scars. I had an outbreak once when I was on vacation at the beach. Of all places , on the back of my left thigh...it was a patch about 3 inches across. The salt water seemed to help them out.
Just do as your doctor tells you and you will be fine.

thanks i am insurance man and have learned a lot about illnesses/medications over the years and kinda like showing off my knowledge :o

as you get older you are likely to have had more health issues, or have friends and loved ones who went thru something. you just kinda learn about these things from experience. with the net, knowledge is so readily available.

LoL when you say insurance man are you like the guy in the movie Along Came Polly?Do you have a laptop and calculate the risks to benefits of every decision you make?LOL I just thought that guy was hilarious in that movie. ;)

Anyone that was vaccinated for chicken pox carries the virus in their body all their life. When your immune system is low, for what every reason, your can break-out with shingles. Usually older people as they age get shingles. Anything that really lowers your immune system can results in shingles no matter what your age.

PS You can avoid shingles if you can catch it within a 1-2 days. See a doctor immedicatally.

sort of. whenever i go to someone's home or business (even if a friend) i always think what could be potential liability or fire risk. :)

here is a non-medical treatment to cure and to prevent shingles: BHT capsules

also lysine is reported to be helpful
